Special free schools commissioned by a local authority
Guidance and expression of interest form for local authorities interested in setting up a special free school.
This guide explains the process that local authorities will need to follow to commission new special free schools.
Local authorities interested in setting up a special free school should:
- read the guidance document
- fill in and return the ‘expression of interest’ form
Special free schools are free schools for children with special educational needs or disabilities.
This guide only covers the process for local-authority-commissioned special free schools. Other groups who wish to set up a special free school should use the guidance and forms on the ‘Opening a free school or studio school’ page.
