In its phase 1 report into the circumstances surrounding the Southport attack of 29 July 2024, the inquiry:
- set out its assessment of 5 fundamental failings in how the risk posed by the perpetrator was understood and managed
- made 67 recommendations for central government, national and local organisations to deliver
In its response, the government:
- recognises the 5 fundamental failings
- agrees with all 67 recommendations
- accepts the recommendations that are for central government to deliver
The recommendations cover:
- taxis and private hire vehicles
- emergency response
- venue security
- weapons and poisons
- online harms
- policing
- Prevent and Counter Terrorism Policing
- social care
- healthcare
- education
- parents and carers
