Details

In its phase 1 report into the circumstances surrounding the Southport attack of 29 July 2024, the inquiry:

  • set out its assessment of 5 fundamental failings in how the risk posed by the perpetrator was understood and managed
  • made 67 recommendations for central government, national and local organisations to deliver

In its response, the government:

  • recognises the 5 fundamental failings
  • agrees with all 67 recommendations
  • accepts the recommendations that are for central government to deliver

The recommendations cover:

  • taxis and private hire vehicles
  • emergency response
  • venue security
  • weapons and poisons
  • online harms
  • policing
  • Prevent and Counter Terrorism Policing
  • social care
  • healthcare
  • education
  • parents and carers
