Guidance for managing STI outbreaks and incidents

Details

This guidance replaces previous guidance produced by the Health Protection Agency, now Public Health England (PHE). A stakeholder consultation workshop and many outbreak investigations supported by PHE and its predecessor organisations since 2001 have shaped this guidance.

Guidance is given on:

  • planning an STI outbreak prevention and control strategy
  • investigating an outbreak

The guidance is provided primarily for health protection professionals at local, regional and national level.

PHE has developed a supplementary list of questions and answer options that can be used in outbreak investigations. The resources are available on the PHE Field Epidemiology Service (FES) Portal (PHE user login required).
