Can the department confirm which primary and secondary schools in Chorley are in receipt of the schools sport grant and how much each school receives?
2. Release
Schools in the Chorley area receive funding from central government through the Holy Cross school partnership which covers the Chorley area.
Schools sport partnerships are groups of schools, working together to increase the quality and quantity of PE and school sport on offer to their pupils within and beyond the school day.
There are currently 450 partnerships covering every maintained school in England. The Holy Cross partnership is managed from Holy Cross Catholic High School and administers the funding to the seven secondary schools and 40 primary schools within its boundaries.
The table below shows the yearly grants made to the Holy Cross partnership between 2005 to 2010:

This funding is then used by schools to purchase the following services:
- a full time partnership development manager in the hub school
- a qualified PE teacher in each secondary school to take 2 days a week off timetable to take on the role of school sport coordinator
- a primary link teacher in each primary school to take 12 days a year off to receive additional training PE and sport
- a member of staff in each FE college to take 2 days a week off timetable to take on the role of FE sport coordinator
