Firing timings

Normal firing times for SPTA (subject to operation requirement extensions).

Monday: 9am to 5pm (9am to 5pm from 1 Nov to 1 Mar)
Tuesday: 9am to 11:30pm (9am to 9pm from 1 Nov to 1 Mar)
Wednesday: 9am to 5pm (9am to 5pm from 1 Nov to 1 Mar)
Thursday: 9am to 11:30pm (9am to 9pm from 1 Nov to 1 Mar)
Friday: 9am to 5pm (9am to 5pm from 1 Nov to 1 Mar)
Saturday: 9am to 11:30pm (9am to 9pm from 1 Nov to 1 Mar)
Sunday: 9am to 1pm (9am to 1pm from 1 Nov to 1 Mar)

Your safety

You are reminded not to access the byeways when the red flags are flying and the ‘danger’, ‘live firing’ or ‘no public entry’ signs are displayed.

For your own safety do not touch any military debris, it may be dangerous.

Danger area boundaries are posted on signs at each entrance to the training area.

Military lands byelaws

You are reminded when on land subject to the Salisbury Plain Military Lands byelaws 1981 (S.I.1981/1982) under Byelaw 5 it is an offence to fail to comply with the provisions of byelaw 3:

  • under section 3(1(d)) no person may engage in or carry on any trade or business of any kind whatsoever. To do so may result in a Warning Off, whereby you will be asked to leave the training area or a fine being issued

  • it is an offence to use a motor vehicle other than on a byeway open to all traffic (BOAT) or permissive BOAT

Under section 3(1(c)) no person may ride a horse, bicycle or tricycle or ride, drive or propel a motor vehicle of any kind, otherwise than on the carriageway or a road suitably constructed and made up for general use by vehicular traffic. To do so may result in a warning off, whereby you will be asked to leave the training area and a s59 (of the Police Reform Act 2002) warning letter issued or a fine being issued.
