Summary of issue

It has been brought to the attention of the MCA that HI-FOG 1900 Sprinkler Heads may not be compatible with some of the A1000 Assembly Bodies. The internal stop valve of A1000 Assembly Bodies of the types listed below may be pushed beyond its intended range when a HI-FOG 1900 sprinkler is installed.

HI-FOG 1900 Sprinklers installed in A1000 type Assembly Bodies: Item Codes;

  • C-0001318
  • C-0006553
  • C40022
  • C40022.1
  • C40024

The A1000 Assembly Bodies were built to accommodate the HI-FOG 1000 sprinklers. Some models of this Assembly Body include an internal stop valve that prevents the flow through the Assembly Body if the sprinkler is removed.

The A1000 Assembly Bodies can also accommodate the HI-FOG 1900 sprinklers, and it is with this combination where a problem has been found.

The pictures in annex A can be used to quickly identify types of Marioff nozzles where potential problems may exist.

Actions to take

In the first instance, identify if the sprinkler type (HI-FOG 1900) and body type (A1000) affected are fitted to your vessel. If you are not sure if you have HI-FOG 1900 sprinklers installed Page 5 of 5 aboard the vessel or otherwise if any installation is subject to this Bulletin, please contact Marioff for further instruction immediately;

In the interim, the MCA would request all owners and operators to confirm their corrective action plan with their Customer Service Manager including any additional interim safety measures they are putting in place to mitigate the risk of a defective sprinkler system.
