This privacy notice explains how we will process personal data related to:

  • registering for a visitor mooring on the non-tidal River Thames

Controller and Data Protection Officer contact details

We are the Environment Agency, and as a Navigation Authority we manage certain visitor moorings on the non-tidal Thames.

The Environment Agency is the controller for the personal data we process under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA 2018). Our contact details are available on GOV.UK.

Our personal information charter  explains:

  • how to contact our Data Protection Officer

  • what we do with your personal information (personal data) in general

  • your rights and how to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office

Why we may process your personal data

Our purpose for processing your personal data is to process your registration for a visitor mooring.

We are allowed to process your personal data because we have official authority to manage certain visitor moorings for the non-tidal Thames. The lawful basis for processing your personal data is to perform a task in the public interest that is set out in law.

The lawful basis we rely on to process your personal data is article 6(1)(e) of the UK GDPR, which allows us to process personal data when this is necessary to exercise our official authority. The processing has a basis in the Thames Conservancy Act 1932.

If you do not give us the personal data requested, we will not be able to process your visitor mooring registration.

What personal data we process and how we use it

We collect personal data from you directly using the registration form online. We use your personal data to:

  • register for a visitor mooring

  • issue you with a confirmation

  • make sure conditions of the mooring are met and take enforcement action if you do not keep to the conditions of the mooring

  • check our boat registration database to confirm registration information

  • contact you about our service and ask for your feedback

The data we collect includes:

  • registered boat name

  • boat registration number

  • location of mooring

An email address is required if you choose to receive an email confirmation, but we do not store this information.

If you need to make a payment for a mooring, you will need to use the separate payment form: Make a payment - Pay my visitor mooring fees.

The payment form has its own privacy notice: Privacy notice – GOV.UK Pay.

We do not share your personal data with any other party without your consent unless we are required or permitted to do so by law.

Where your personal information is stored and processed

We store and process your personal data in the UK.

How long we keep your personal data

We keep your personal data used to register for a mooring for one year.
