The report presents Department for Education analysis of a detailed cohort study – the longitudinal survey of young people in England 2 (LSYPE2) – linked to longitudinal education outcomes data.

It examines risk factors for being NEET at ages 17 to 19 and 20 to 24. Among others, the risk factors include:

  • education, health and care (EHC) plan status
  • attendance and attainment in school
  • young people’s engagement in school
  • experience of the care system
