Regional Director’s welcome
The Regional Director for Yorkshire and the Humber is Alison Wilson.
The Yorkshire and the Humber region has a proud culture rooted in strong communities and high ambition. It is this collective striving for success that underpins our universal regional improvement for standards and excellence (RISE) programme. The RISE programme ensures every school in the region is part of a strong community, is open and collaborative, and gives and receives support.
We are looking forward to working across the region on our collective priority to drive up standards in early years and through each stage of school. We want to focus on:
- closing the disadvantage gap at every stage of children’s education
- having inclusive schools
- ensuring children feel a sense of belonging to their school and attend every possible day they can
By helping all schools access high-quality improvement support, our programme is already helping to break the link between a child’s background and their future success. Our full-to-capacity conferences on attendance and early years are a great example of new, free, universally available learning opportunities.
I hope that you will join us and make full use of Yorkshire and the Humber’s professional opportunities for learning with and from each other.

This consists of:
- work groups (particularly supporting implementation of teaching for mastery pedagogy)
- specialist knowledge for teaching mathematics (SKTM) programmes
