Updated 26 October 2017

This notice was withdrawn on

This notice is no longer in force.

When

Monday 18 September to Friday 10 November 2017.

Where

Clifton Reach (Clifton Lock Cut Bridge, 350 metres upstream of Clifton Lock).

Details

The timbers on Clifton Lock Cut Bridge have failed leaving the structure in an unsafe condition. Urgent repairs are required to make the bridge safe for both boats passing underneath and those who rely on the bridge as a river crossing.

In order to replace the timbers scaffolding is required around the bridge deck. This will reduce the available headway under the bridge from 4.06 metres to 3.12 metres.

The end date of this restriction has been extended to Friday 10 November from the original date of Monday 30 October due to unforeseen circumstances.

Local bridge heights:

Bridge Headway metres Headway feet
Clifton Hampden Bridge 4.09 13’5”
Clifton Lock Cut Bridge (reduced headway during the works) 3.12 10’3”
Appleford Railway Bridge 3.96 13’0”
Culham Road Bridge 4.49 14’9”
Culham Lock Cut Bridge 3.78 12’5”
Abingdon Bridge 4.24 13’11”
Nuneham Railway Bridge 4.80 15’9”
Kennington Railway Bridge 4.11 13’6”
Isis Bridge 5.03 16’6”
Donnington Bridge 5.03 16’6”
Folly Bridge 3.12 10’3”

Headways are measured above standard head water level of the lock below and at the highest point of the span or arch, therefore the measures given in this table are for guidance only.

River users are reminded that boats going upstream must give way to boats coming downstream.
