The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 was introduced in October 2006 and has been subsequently amended by the Fire Safety Act 2021 and the Building Safety Act 2022 in England.
Fire and rescue authorities and other bodies (‘enforcing authorities’) have a duty to enforce fire safety in non-domestic premises which include workplaces and in residential blocks the common parts, structure, external walls and doors.
Enforcing authorities must have regard to guidance issued by the Secretary of State in their enforcement approach. This set of guidance is intended to help them to better understand the intended compliance and enforcement outcomes when discharging their duties in England under the Order.
The public may also refer to this guidance to better understand the intent of specific aspects of the Order.
