The purpose of the framework is to:

  • set out Ofqual’s role and responsibilities and how we will meet them
  • provide guidance to responsible bodies about the performance of their functions in relation to national assessment arrangements

Our role is to make sure that:

  • the assessments are valid and fit for purpose
  • the assessments are fair and manageable
  • the standards are properly set and maintained
  • the results are used appropriately

We have 2 legal objectives relating to national assessments:

  • promote assessment arrangements which are valid, reliable and comparable
  • promote public confidence in the arrangements
