The Secretary of State for health will consider the registration of a Pregnancy Advisory Bureau, if the owners agree to follow the standard operating principles set out in the Procedures for the Registration of Pregnancy Advisory Bureaux text

The Secretary of State also has responsibility, under the Abortion Act 1967, to approve independent sector places for the termination of pregnancy. Approved places may only accept patients referred from a Bureaux on the register. NHS funded patients can access services through those routes agreed via local commissioning arrangements.
