These Directions allow the NHS Business Services Authority (BSA) to carry out functions on behalf of the Secretary of State and NHS England, relating to the NHS Low Income Scheme Redress 2014.

The NHS Low Income Scheme provides help, on a means-tested basis, with health costs like charges for NHS prescriptions, dental treatment, NHS wigs and fabric supports, and the cost of sight tests and travel to receive NHS treatment on referral. It also gives entitlement to vouchers towards the cost of glasses or contact lenses.

An error in the relevant Regulations for the NHS Low Income Scheme was identified in 2008. The error meant that a small number of claims made to the scheme were calculated incorrectly. The NHS Low Income Scheme Redress 2014 is a scheme to identify and offer redress to those affected by the error.
