Notified national technical rules (NNTR) are a technical standard used to ensure the rail industry is safe, efficient and sustainable. NNTRs can perform a number of functions, such as:

- filling in where gaps have been identified in the technical specifications for interoperability (TSI)
- setting requirements to maintain technical compatibility with existing assets that do not conform to the requirements of TSIs
