Phase 4 Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme: project summaries

This document contains summaries for projects funded through Phase 4 of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme.

North East 

Ad Astra Academy Trust, Hartlepool  

Ad Astra Academy Trust has been awarded £1,050,425 to decarbonise three schools: Crooksbarn Primary School in Stockton-on-Tees and West Park Primary School and Brougham Primary School in Hartlepool. Existing gas heating systems will be replaced with air source heat pumps at all schools. 

Cheviot Learning Trust, Northumberland 

Cheviot Learning Trust has been awarded £832,459 to support the decarbonisation of Dr Thomlinson Church of England Middle School in Northumberland and Whittonstall First School in Durham. Bothc schools will have air source heat pumps installed. At Dr Thomlinson Church of England Middle School, new wall and loft insulation will be installed to improve the school’s energy efficiency.  

Consilium Academy Trust, Manchester  

Consilium Academy Trust in Manchester has been awarded £1,540,000 to decarbonise Heworth Grange School. Existing gas heating systems will be replaced with an air source heat pump.

Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust

Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £4,849,363 to support the decarbonisation of 23 buildings at St Nicholas Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne. All buildings will be fitted with a mixture of air source heat pumps and electric heaters. 

Durham County Council  

Durham County Council has been awarded £674,000 to install an air source heat pump at Crook Civic Centre. Energy efficiency improvements will include draught proofing, ventilation fans, and a new heat recovery system. The building energy management system will also be upgraded.

Hartlepool Borough Council

Hartlepool Borough Council has been awarded £68,000 to decarbonise an accommodation building at Carlton Adventure Centre in North Yorkshire. The end-of-life heating system will be replaced with an air source heat pump. 

Middlesbrough College  

Middlesbrough College has been awarded £4,910,377 to support the decarbonisation of multiple buildings across its estate. Air source heat pumps will be installed in three college buildings, and solar panels will be installed across the estate to support renewable energy generation.  

Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust  

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £40,545,666 to decarbonise multiple sites, including the Freeman Hospital, Ponteland Road Health Centre, and Benfield Park Medical Surgery - all located in Newcastle upon Tyne. All sites will be fitted with air source heat pumps and integrated into local district heat networks. Solar panels will also be installed across the sites to provide a source of renewable energy. Additional measures such as LED lighting, upgraded pipework, and improved glazing will further enhance overall energy efficiency. 

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust  

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £20,204,132 to support the decarbonisation of three hospital sites: Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington, Wansbeck General Hospital in Ashington, and Hexham General Hospital in Northumberland. All three sites will have their heating systems replaced with a combination of ground source, air source, and water source heat pumps. Energy efficiency will be improved across all sites through the installation of thermal stores, electric point-of-use heaters, and draught proofing.

North Tyneside Council

North Tyneside Council has been awarded £2,912,100 to support the decarbonisation of the Quadrant East building in North Tyneside, which houses the council chamber and office spaces. The existing heating system will be replaced with an air source heat pump, while solar panels will be fitted to generate a source of renewable energy. A new building energy management system will also be installed.

South Tyneside Borough Council  

South Tyneside Borough Council has been awarded £321,367 to decarbonise the Simonside Outdoor Activity Centre in South Shields. The centre supports local schools with climbing and outdoor sport education. Existing gas boilers will be replaced with an air source heat pump, while solar panels will be fitted to provide a source of renewable energy for the centre. The fitting of cavity wall insulation will also help improve the overall energy efficiency of the site.   

Sunderland City Council  

Sunderland City Council has been awarded £1,052,387 to decarbonise Bishopwearmouth Crematorium by replacing gas-powered cremators with highly efficient electric models. 

Yorkshire and the Humber

Areté Learning Trust, Stokesley, North Yorkshire

Areté Learning Trust has been awarded £1,950,000 to decarbonise Ryedale School in North Yorkshire. The existing fossil fuel heating system will be replaced with a ground source heat pump, while energy efficiency measures will include new double glazing and draught-proofing. 

Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £399,384 to support the decarbonisation of part of its estate at the hospital. The end-of-life heating system will be replaced with an air source heat pump, while the production of renewable energy will be supported through the installation of solar panels. Energy efficiency upgrades include new roof insulation and pipework improvements.

Bishop Burton College, East Yorkshire 

Bishop Burton College in East Yorkshire has been awarded £680,623 to decarbonise ten campus buildings including The Meadows, which houses sports facilities, and the Student Village, which provides on-site accommodation. Air source heat pumps will be installed at The Meadows and three Student Village buildings. Energy efficiency measures to be installed include new double glazing, loft and wall insulation, and building energy management systems. 

Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £11,467,674 to support the decarbonisation of St Luke’s Hospital in Bradford. All buildings across the site will be connected to an existing district heating network. Upgrades to pipework will also be made to improve the hospital’s overall energy efficiency.

Breckenbrough School Limited

Breckenbrough School Limited has been awarded £688,500 to decarbonise Breckenbrough School in North Yorkshire. The school will be fitted with an air source heat pump. Energy efficiency measures will include improvements to pipework, roof insulation, and the installation of a new building energy management system.

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £604,947 to support the decarbonisation of the Acre Mills Outpatient Department, a Grade II listed building that forms part of Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. Fossil fuel boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps, while the overall energy efficiency of the site will be improved through new double glazing, draught proofing and loft insulation. 

Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council 

Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council has been awarded £5,100,000 to support the decarbonisation of four sites across the borough: Brighouse Swimming Pool, Sowerby Bridge Swimming Pool, Halifax Borough Market, and the Victoria Theatre in Halifax. The existing fossil fuel heating systems will be replaced with both air source and ground source heat pumps. Improvements will also be made to how hot water is distributed at Brighouse and Sowerby Bridge swimming pools. LED lighting will also be installed at the Victoria Theatre to improve its overall energy efficiency.  

East Riding of Yorkshire Council 

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has been awarded £545,500 for two projects to decarbonise The Old School House Nursing Home and Beverley County Hall, both located in Beverley, Yorkshire. At each site, the existing heating system will be replaced with an air source heat pump.

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £3,675,338 to support the decarbonisation of Harrogate District Hospital in North Yorkshire. Existing steam boilers will be replaced with a combination of air source and water source heat pumps. Secondary glazing will also be installed to improve the hospital’s energy efficiency. 

Hull City Council 

Hull City Council has been awarded £4,935,960 to support the decarbonisation of four key civic buildings: Hull History Centre, the Wilson Centre, the Guildhall, and City Hall—two of which are Grade II listed. All buildings will be connected to the Hull District Heat Network and fitted with solar panels to enhance renewable energy generation. Energy efficiency improvements will include the installation of LED lighting and new building energy management systems. City Hall will also benefit from additional upgrades, such as double glazing, upgraded pipework, and draught-proofing.

Impact Education Multi Academy Trust, West Yorkshire  

Impact Education Multi Academy Trust has been awarded £1,036,000 to support the decarbonisation of The Halifax Academy in West Yorkshire. The existing fossil fuel heating system will be replaced with an air source heat pump while additional measures including new loft insulation will be fitted to improve the overall energy efficiency of the school.

Leeds City Council 

Leeds City Council has been awarded £4,993,450 to support the decarbonisation of Garforth Leisure Centre, The Arium Horticultural Nursery, Little Owls Nursery, and two primary schools: Woodlesford Primary School and Oulton Primary School. The existing fossil fuel heating systems in each building will be replaced with air source and water source heat pumps. Additionally, renewable energy will be supported through the installation of solar panels on some of the buildings. New building energy management systems, along with improvements to hot water distribution and thermal stores, will also be installed to improve the overall energy efficiency of the sites. 

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust 

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has been awarded £6,587,795 to connect St James’s University Hospital to an existing district heating network in Leeds. Energy efficiency measures will include roof and wall insulation, as well as pipework improvements. 

Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust

Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust has been awarded £4,940,778 to support the decarbonisation of Pontefract Hospital and Pinderfields Hospital, both located in Wakefield. Air source heat pumps will be installed at both sites.  

North East Lincolnshire Council 

North East Lincolnshire Council has received £160,282 to support the decarbonisation of 3 Town Hall Square and the Doughty Learning Centre, both historic office buildings owned by the council. Existing fossil fuel heating systems will be replaced with air source heat pumps, while roof insulation improvements and the fitting of smart meters will help improve their overall energy efficiency. 

North Lincolnshire Council

North Lincolnshire Council has been awarded £3,105,000 to support the decarbonisation of three key public buildings: Baths Hall theatre, Scunthorpe Central Community Hub, and Waters Edge Visitor Centre. Air source heat pumps will be installed at both Baths Hall and Scunthorpe Central, while a ground source heat pump will be installed at Waters Edge. Solar panels will also be installed at Scunthorpe Central to produce renewable energy. Energy efficiency measures to be installed include energy efficient chillers at Scunthorpe Central, an energy efficient convection oven, and new building energy management systems at Baths Hall and Waters Edge.

North Yorkshire Council 

North Yorkshire Council has been awarded £536,928 to support the decarbonisation of Nidderdale Leisure Centre in Harrogate. Old fossil fuel boilers will be replaced with an air source heat pump. 

Pathfinder Multi Academy Trust, York  

Pathfinder Multi Academy Trust has been awarded £1,128,000 for two projects to support the decarbonisation of Rufforth Primary School in York and Malton School in North Yorkshire. Both schools will be fitted with air source heat pumps. Energy efficiency improvements at Rufforth Primary School include cavity wall insulation and double glazing, while Malton School will receive new roof insulation.

Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council 

Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council has been awarded £265,000 to decarbonise three properties: Springwell Gardens Community Centre, Swinton Library, and 115 Middle Lane South, which provides emergency accommodation for children. Air source heat pumps and solar panels will be installed at each site. Energy efficiency measures will include LED lighting and cavity wall insulation. An electric boiler will also be installed to support decarbonisation. 

South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust 

South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £6,079,717 to support the decarbonisation of Fieldhead Hospital in Wakefield. Both air source and water source heat pumps will be installed across 13 hospital buildings. Energy efficiency measures that will take place include the installation of thermal stores, loft insulation and the upgrading of pipework.

Star Academies, Bradford 

Star Academies has been awarded £962,133 to support the decarbonisation of Barkerend Primary Leadership Academy in Bradford. Existing fossil fuel boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps, while measures including new cavity wall and loft insulation will be installed to enhance the school’s overall energy efficiency. 

Together Learning Trust, Yorkshire 

Together Learning Trust has been awarded a total of £4,970,000 for two projects to decarbonise four schools in West Yorkshire. The first project will support Brooksbank Secondary School, Netherton Infant and Nursery School, and Meltham Moor Primary School. Brooksbank Secondary School will be connected to an existing centralised heating network, while Netherton Infant and Nursery School and Meltham Moor Primary School will have air source heat pumps installed. The second project will decarbonise Ryburn Valley High School, where the existing fossil fuel heating system will be replaced with an air source heat pump.

University of York 

University of York has been awarded £35,149,935 to support the decarbonisation of multiple buildings across its main campus in York. Most buildings will be connected to an on-site geothermal heating network, while others will link to the existing district heating system. Energy efficiency improvements will include the installation of new LED lighting and enhanced insulation in key facilities, such as the IT Centre, the Research Centre for the Social Sciences, and the Biology and Harry Fairhurst buildings. 

Waterton Academy Trust, Wakefield  

Waterton Academy Trust has been awarded £2,400,000 to decarbonise six schools: Walton Primary Academy, Wrenthorpe Academy, Churchfield Primary School, Ackworth Mill Dam School, Lee Brigg Infant and Nursery School and Crofton Infant School. Each building will be fitted with an air source heat pump to replace old fossil fuel heating systems.

York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust  

York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £8,680,116 to support the decarbonisation of Scarborough General Hospital. The existing fossil fuel boiler will be replaced with an air source heat pump. Energy efficiency measures include the installation of an electric boiler and high-efficiency motors. Upgrades will also be made to the pipework and the building energy management systems. 

York Board of Education 

York Diocesan Board of Education has been awarded £396,000 to support the decarbonisation of two primary schools: St. Martin’s Primary School and St. Peter’s Primary School. The existing end-of-life oil-fired boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps. Energy efficient improvements include improved insulation, new glazing and draught-proofing. 

North West

Alsager Town Council

Alsager Town Council has been awarded £141,500 to decarbonise Alsager Civic Hall in Cheshire, a community venue used for events that support elderly and vulnerable residents in the community. The existing gas-fired boilers, which have reached the end of their life, will be replaced with an air source heat pump, while solar panels will be fitted to generate renewable energy. New roof insulation, LED lighting and a building energy management system will also be installed to improve the overall energy efficiency of the site.  

Blackburn Diocesan Board of Education  

Blackburn Diocesan Board of Education has been awarded £845,000 to decarbonise the heating systems of four primary schools: Green Haworth Church of England Primary School, Ribchester St Wilfrid’s Church of England Primary School, Pilling St John’s Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School and Treales Church of England Primary School, the latter of which is a Grade II listed building. The existing, end-of-life heating systems will be replaced with air source heat pumps at all four schools. In addition, the overall energy efficiency of the buildings will be enhanced through improved loft insulation, draught-proofing, and the installation of new electric panel heaters.  

Burnley Borough Council

Burnley Borough Council has been awarded £973,221 for two projects to decarbonise Prairie Sports Village and Calder House, which forms part of Charter Walk Shopping Centre. Both sites will be fitted with air source heat pumps and solar panels to support renewable energy generation. Prairie Sports Village will also include an electric heater and benefit from energy efficiency measures such as LED lighting, pipework improvements, and a new building energy management system. Calder House will receive additional upgrades including loft and roof insulation, improved glazing and pipework, and its own new energy management system. 

Carlisle Diocesan Board of Education  

Carlisle Diocesan Board of Education has been awarded £434,000 to decarbonise St Bega’s Church of England Primary School and Wiggonby Church of England Primary School, both located in the Lake District National Park. The oil-fired boilers at each school will be replaced with air source heat pumps, and energy efficiency measures will include new panel heaters, draughtproofing, and enhanced wall and loft insulation.  

Chorley Borough Council  

Chorley Borough Council has been awarded £5,099,632 to decarbonise five buildings: Chorley Town Hall, All Seasons Leisure Centre, Brinscall Swimming Pool, Eaves Green Community Centre, and Astley Community Centre. Air source heat pumps will be installed in all buildings, and four of the sites will also be fitted with solar panels. Energy efficiency measures will include new LED lighting, ventilation, double glazing, and loft and wall insulation.  

Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust  

Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £24,464,000 to support the decarbonisation of Countess of Chester Hospital in Chester. All gas boilers across the site will be replaced with a ground source heat pump, which will provide geothermal energy to support the heating for the entire site.   

Diocese of Salford  

Diocese of Salford has been awarded £1,044,541 to decarbonise both SS Thomas Fisher and Roger More High School. Existing gas boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps, while new variable speed drives and LED lighting will improve the overall energy efficiency of the buildings.   

Edge Hill University, Lancashire  

Edge Hill University has been awarded £1,673,787 to support the replacement of fossil fuel heating systems with an air source heat pump at its Faculty of Health, Social Care and Medicine building.  

Education Partnership Trust, Blackburn   

Education Partnership Trust has been awarded £2,703,443 for two projects to decarbonise Carr Hill High School in Preston, and The Heights Free School and Eden School in Blackburn. At Carr Hill High School, end-of-life gas boilers will be replaced with an air source heat pump, and cavity wall insulation will be installed to improve energy efficiency. The Heights Free School and Eden School will be connected to a local district heat network, with solar panels installed to support renewable energy. Cavity wall insulation will also be installed at The Heights Free School to improve energy efficiency.

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust  

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £14,030,363 to decarbonise the ageing steam heating systems at Royal Preston Hospital. The main boiler house will be replaced with both air source and water source heat pumps while new building energy management systems, improved roof insulation and pipework upgrades will improve the overall energy efficiency of the hospital site.  

Leverhulme Academy Church of England and Community Trust, Bolton  

Leverhulme Academy Church of England and Community Trust has been awarded £2,235,000 to upgrade three buildings at Rivington and Blackrod High School in Bolton. Fossil fuel heating systems in each of the three buildings will be replaced with air source heat pumps. Renewable energy generation will also be supported by the installation of solar panels. Energy efficiency measures to be installed include new draught-proofing and loft insulation as well as pipework upgrades. 

Liverpool City Region Combined Authority  

Liverpool City Region Combined Authority has been awarded £30,412,738 to support the decarbonisation of 35 buildings across the region. The project includes the installation of air source heat pumps in 24 buildings, including Queens Park Leisure Centre and Birkenhead Central Library. Ground and water source heat pumps will be installed at three sites, such as Meadows Leisure Centre and Chase Heys Home for the Elderly. Seacombe Ferry Terminal will also be connected to the existing district heating network. Solar panels will be installed at 12 buildings, including St Helens Town Hall and Picow Farm Depot. Additional measures include LED lighting, improved insulation, and pipework upgrades.  

Liverpool Diocesan Board of Education 

Liverpool Board of Education has been awarded £937,250 to decarbonise Halsall St Cuthbert’s Church of England Primary School in Lancashire and St John’s Church of England Primary School in Merseyside. Air source heat pumps will be fitted in both schools, along with electric panel heaters. Energy efficiency measures to be installed include new loft and wall insulation, LED lighting, and improvements to the pipework. 

Liverpool Hope University

Liverpool Hope University has been awarded £310,000 for two projects to decarbonise multiple buildings across its campus. Existing heating systems will be replaced with air source heat pumps, and electric heaters will also be installed. Additional measures at Hope Park Campus include loft insulation and improved glazing that will improve overall energy efficiency. 

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £728,318 to decarbonise Altrincham General Hospital in Cheshire. Fossil fuel heating systems will be replaced with a combination of air source and water source heat pumps. 

Merseyside Police

Merseyside Police has been awarded £1,278,982 to support the decarbonisation of two key operational buildings: the Mounted Section building in Liverpool and the Lea Green Training Centre in St Helens. Heating systems at both sites will be replaced with air source heat pumps. Solar panels will be installed to support renewable energy generation. Additional upgrades across both sites will include new insulation, LED lighting, improved pipework, and enhanced glazing to improve energy efficiency.

Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has been awarded £10,199,706 to decarbonise Southport and Formby District General Hospital in Southport, Merseyside. Existing heating systems will be replaced with water source heat pumps while energy efficiency will be improved through improvements to pipework.

Network Rail Infrastructure Limited 

Network Rail Infrastructure Limited has been awarded £4,975,000 to support the decarbonisation of two key sites: Allerton Train Depot in Liverpool and Piccadilly Train Station in Manchester, both of which are vital components of the national transportation infrastructure. Existing fossil fuel heating systems at both sites will be replaced with air source and water source heat pumps. Additionally, an electric panel heater will be installed at Allerton Train Depot, while Piccadilly Station will receive an electric boiler, further improving the overall energy efficiency of the station.  

Network Rail Infrastructure Limited is based in Greater London and this funding will be invested in the North West.  

One Community Trust, Warrington

One Community Trust has received £1,355,000 to decarbonise multiple buildings at Birchwood Community High School in Cheshire. Air source heat pumps will be installed across the site and solar panels will also be fitted on some buildings to generate renewable energy. Energy efficiency upgrades, including the installation of new draught-proofing, loft insulation, smart meters and building energy management systems, will help improve the overall efficiency of the school. 

Pendle Borough Council, Lancashire  

Pendle Borough Council has been awarded £1,715,838 to decarbonise West Craven and Pendle Wavelength leisure centres in Lancashire.  Existing fossil fuel boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps at both sites.   

Rossendale Borough Council, Lancashire  

Rossendale Borough Council has been awarded £1,379,172 to support the decarbonisation of Marl Pits Leisure Centre, which provides exercise and swimming facilities for the Rawtenstall community and surrounding areas. The existing fossil fuel heating system will be replaced with an air source heat pump, while solar panels will also be installed to produce a source of renewable energy. Pipework improvements and new LED lighting will also be fitted to improve the overall energy efficiency of the leisure centre.  

Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust  

Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £14,411,460 to support the decarbonisation of two sites within Tameside Hospital in Ashton-under-Lyne including the Ladysmith building, which houses clinical services including respiratory, elderly care, and gastroenterology wards. The existing heating systems at both sites will be replaced with a combination of air source and water source heat pumps while the overall energy efficiency of the hospital will be improved through the installation of a new building energy management system and roof insulation.   

The Liverpool Joint Catholic and Church of England Academies Trust  

The Liverpool Joint Catholic and Church of England Academies Trust has been awarded £2,625,881 to support the decarbonisation of three schools: St Cleopas Church of England Primary Academy, St Mary’s Catholic Junior Academy and St Margaret’s Church of England Academy. Air source heat pumps will replace fossil fuel boiler systems at all schools. Solar panels will also be fitted to provide the Trust with a source of renewable energy. Energy efficiency measures to be installed across the schools include draught-proofing, loft insulation, and improvements to pipework.  

University of Chester  

The University of Chester has been awarded £4,387,152 to support the decarbonisation of its Queen’s Park and Riverside campuses. Fossil fuel boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps.  

University of Salford  

The University of Salford has been awarded £1,495,393 to install air source and water source heat pumps in the Mary Seacole Building, which is used for the training of nurses, midwives, and physiotherapists. Solar panels will also be fitted to produce a source of renewable energy for the building, while the energy efficiency of the site will be improved through new LED lighting.  

Westmorland and Furness Council  

Westmorland and Furness Council has been awarded £1,750,000 to decarbonise four buildings: Appleby Leisure Centre, Kendal Leisure Centre, Kendal Market Hall, and South Lakeland House, where in-person council services are provided. Low carbon heating systems in the form of air source heat pumps will be installed in each building. Solar panels will also be installed at South Lakeland House and Kendal Leisure Centre. Improvements to heat distribution systems and pipework will enhance energy efficiency at both leisure centres. 

East Midlands

Bassetlaw District Council, Nottinghamshire  

Bassetlaw District Council has been awarded £175,000 to decarbonise four public buildings in Bassetlaw including Balmoral Community Centre and Thievesdale Community Centre in Worksop. Old gas-fired boilers in each building will be replaced with air source heat pumps.  Solar panels will be installed at some of the sites to provide a source of renewable energy. Energy efficiency measures to be installed include new double glazing, LED lighting, and improved insulation.    

Better Futures Multi-Academy Trust, Nottingham  

Better Futures Multi-Academy Trust has been awarded £1,974,000 to support the decarbonisation of Billborough College in Nottingham. End-of-life boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps, while the installation of solar panels will provide the college with a source of renewable energy. Additionally, a new building energy management system will be installed to improve the college’s overall energy efficiency. 

Charnwood Borough Council  

Charnwood Borough Council has been awarded £2,700,000 to decarbonise Loughborough Leisure Centre. The existing fossil fuel heating system will be replaced with an air source heat pump. Energy efficiency measures including pipework upgrades and new roof and wall insulation will also be installed to improve the overall efficiency of the leisure centre. 

Chesterfield Borough Council

Chesterfield Borough Council has been awarded £2,394,413 to decarbonise Staveley Healthy Living Centre in Staveley, Chesterfield. The existing heating system will be replaced with air source heat pumps. Energy efficiency measures to be installed include new ventilation systems and a building energy management system.

David Ross Education Trust

David Ross Education Trust has been awarded £265,755 to decarbonise Thomas Hinderwell Primary Academy in North Yorkshire. The existing gas-fired heating system will be replaced with an air source heat pump, while solar panels will be fitted across the school buildings to provide a source of renewable energy. Energy efficiency measures to be installed include new double glazing, loft insulation and LED lighting, while pipework improvement work will also be undertaken.

David Ross Education Trust is based in the East Midlands and will invest this funding in North Yorkshire.

Derbyshire County Council  

Derbyshire County Council has been awarded £325,730 for three projects to support the decarbonisation of multiple sites, including Ashbourne Library and two children’s centres in Chesterfield: Alice’s View Children’s Centre and Gateway Children’s Centre. Existing gas-fired heating systems will be replaced with air source heat pumps at all sites.

Diverse Academies Trust, Retford, Nottinghamshire

Diverse Academies Trust has been awarded £2,025,465 to decarbonise Tuxford Academy, a secondary school in Tuxford, Nottinghamshire. An end-of-life boiler will be replaced with an air source heat pump. LED lighting, ventilation and a cooling system will also be installed to improve energy efficiency.  

East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust  

East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust has been awarded £937,935 to support the decarbonisation of Beechdale Ambulance Station in Nottingham. The existing fossil fuel boiler, which is at the end of its life, will be replaced with an air source heat pump. An electric radiant panel heater will also be installed to improve heating efficiency.  

Leicestershire County Council

Leicestershire County Council has been awarded £115,000 to support the decarbonisation of multiple community centres in the Leicestershire area, including Lutterworth Community Centre, Braunstone Town Community Centre, Broughton Astley Community Hub, and Market Harborough Community Centre. All buildings will be fitted with air source heat pumps, and solar panels will also be installed to generate renewable energy.

Lift Schools, Lincolnshire  

Lift Schools has been awarded £120,888 to decarbonise North Thoresby Primary Academy in Lincolnshire. Air source heat pumps and electric point-of-use heaters will be installed.  

Lincoln College Group  

Lincoln College Group has been awarded £760,202 to support the decarbonisation of three buildings within Lincoln College. Old gas boilers will be replaced with an air source heat pump within each building. Energy efficiency upgrades to be undertaken include the installation of new double glazing, enhanced insulation, and new building energy management systems.  

Network Rail Infrastructure Limited 

Network Rail Infrastructure Limited has been awarded £687,389 to decarbonise East Midlands Control Centre. The existing heating system will be replaced with an air source heat pump.  

Network Rail Infrastructure Limited is based in Greater London. The funding will be invested in the East Midlands.  

North Kesteven District Council            

North Kesteven District Council has been awarded £2,337,329 to decarbonise two buildings: North Kesteven Leisure Centre and the Natural World Centre, a popular visitor destination within Whisby Nature Reserve. Both buildings will replace fossil fuel boilers with air source and water source heat pumps. 

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust  

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust has been awarded £36,076,512 to support the decarbonisation of Queen’s Medical Centre. The main hospital building will be connected to an onsite heat network and a ground source heat pump will also be installed. The replacement of steam traps and the installation new glazing, LED lighting, and improvements to the pipework will help improve the overall energy efficiency of the hospital.  

Nottinghamshire County Council 

Nottinghamshire County Council has been awarded £200,000 to decarbonise Pierrepont Gamston Primary School in Nottinghamshire. The school’s existing heating system will be replaced with an air source heat pump. Additional improvements to pipework and the installation of a new building energy management system will improve the building’s overall energy efficiency. 

Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £2,658,435 to decarbonise Wells Road Centre, a mental health facility in Nottingham. An air source heat pump will be installed to replace end-of-life gas-fired boilers. Energy efficiency measures also to be implemented include the installation of new LED lighting, loft insulation, a building energy management system and pipework improvements

Transform Trust, Nottingham

Transform Trust has been awarded £217,790 to install an air source heat pump in the main block of South Wilford Church of England Primary School in Nottingham as a low carbon heating measure.  

United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust  

United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust has been awarded £23,317,259 to decarbonise twelve buildings at Pilgrim Hospital in Boston. Most of the buildings will have their old fossil fuel boilers replaced with a combination of air and water source heat pumps, while one building will be fitted with an electric heater. 

Wickersley Partnership Trust, Lincolnshire 

Wickersley Partnership Trust has been awarded £1,856,354 to decarbonise Gainsborough Academy Secondary School in Lincolnshire. The school’s old gas heating system will be replaced with an air source heat pump, while solar panels will also be installed to provide the school with a source of renewable energy. 

West Nottinghamshire College  

West Nottinghamshire College has been awarded £1,719,214 to replace end-of-life fossil fuel heating systems with an air source heat pump at its Derby Road campus in Mansfield.

West Midlands 

Aston University   

Aston University has been awarded £35,426,574 to decarbonise its fossil fuel heating network. The current system, which supplies heating to 12 buildings, will be replaced with ground source heat pumps. 

Burton and South Derbyshire College  

Burton and South Derbyshire College in Burton-on-Trent has received £1,408,211 to decarbonise five buildings including its Riverside Building, which houses student services for the campus. Air source heat pumps will be installed at each site to replace old gas-fired heating systems. Measures including the installation of an electric boiler in the main teaching block of the college will also help improve the overall efficiency of the college. 

Hereford Diocesan Board of Education  

Hereford Diocesan Board of Education has been awarded £1,391,940 to support the decarbonisation of five primary schools: Claverley Primary School, Corvedale Primary School, Lea Primary School, Whitchurch Primary School, and Worfield Primary School. Existing gas-fired boilers at each school will be replaced with air source heat pumps. Solar panels will also be installed at Claverley Primary School and Corvedale Primary Schools to provide them with a source of renewable energy. Draught-proofing and insulation upgrades across the sites will also contribute to improved overall energy efficiency of the buildings.   

Herefordshire Council  

Herefordshire Council has been awarded £1,075,000 to support the decarbonisation of Hereford Museum and Art Gallery, a prominent Grade II listed building in the city centre. The project will include the installation of an air source heat pump, and solar panels to provide renewable energy. Additionally, new double glazing, improved roof insulation, and upgraded pipework will enhance the building’s energy efficiency. 

His Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service 

His Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service has been awarded £1,988,833 to support the decarbonisation of Coventry Magistrates Court and Coventry Combined Court. Both buildings will be connected to the Coventry District Heating Network.  

His Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service is based in Greater London. This funding will be invested in the West Midlands. 

Malvern Hills District Council   

Malvern Hills District Council has been awarded £230,000 to support the decarbonisation of two sites in Worcestershire: Council House, which serves as the authority’s headquarters, and Malvern Hill Waste Depot, a local processing and recycling centre. At both locations, existing gas boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps.  

Ministry of Defence 

Ministry of Defence has been awarded £5,674,559 to decarbonise nine buildings at its Donnington site in Shropshire. The site is comprised of an army barracks and a Defence Fulfilment centre. As part of the project, air source heat pumps will be installed in seven buildings, while the remaining two will be fitted with electric panel heaters. Energy efficiency measures will include wall and loft insulation. 

Ministry of Defence is based in Greater London and will invest this funding in the West Midlands   

Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council  

Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council has been awarded £2,790,173 to decarbonise the Jubilee Leisure Centre by replacing its old gas boilers with an air source heat pump.  

Royal Air Force Museum Midlands, Shropshire  

Royal Air Force Museum Midlands has been awarded £1,000,000 to decarbonise one of its aircraft hangars. Both air source and water source heat pumps will be installed, alongside solar panels to provide a source of renewable energy for the site and wall insulation to improve the building’s energy efficiency.  

Shropshire Council

Shropshire Council has been awarded £2,454,400 to decarbonise SpArC Leisure Centre in Bishop’s Castle, Shropshire. An air source heat pump will be installed and pipework improvements and the installation of a new building energy management

Staffordshire Police

Staffordshire Police has been awarded £408,000 to support the decarbonisation of its Headquarters in Stafford. Air source heat pumps will be installed to replace existing gas-fired boilers, while the overall energy efficiency of the site will be improved with the installation of roof insulation.

South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust

South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £2,049,174 to decarbonise the Sterilisation and Decontamination Unit at Warwick Hospital. The existing steam system will be replaced with both air source and water source heat pumps. The energy efficiency of the unit will be improved through the installation of a new energy-efficient steriliser, double glazing, upgraded ventilation, and improved pipework insulation.

The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust 

The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in Shopshire has been awarded £7,144,799 to support the decarbonisation of The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Shropshire. Fossil fuel heating systems will be replaced with a combination of air source and water source heat pumps. Improvements including pipework upgrades, new glazing, and a new building energy management system will improve the overall energy efficiency of the hospital site. 

University of Birmingham  

University of Birmingham has been awarded £1,958,873 to install an air source heat pump at its Institute for Biomedical Research, located in Birmingham.  

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust  

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £14,022,400 to install a ground source heat pump in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham’s Acute Building. The Acute Building delivers a range of outpatient, diagnostic, and day surgery services.   

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £9,179,464 to support the decarbonisation of Sir Robert Peel Community Hospital in Tamworth and Queen’s Hospital in Burton. Air source heat pumps will be installed at both hospital sites. Energy efficiency will be improved through LED lighting, wall insulation, replacement motors, and pipework upgrades.  

West Mercia Police  

West Mercia Police has been awarded £775,974 to decarbonise the main building and custody suite of Worcester Police Station. The old heating and hot water systems will be replaced with an air source heat pump. 

Worcester City Council  

Worcester City Council has been awarded £90,000 to support the decarbonisation of the King George V Community Centre, a hub used for employability training, youth activities, and local events. Existing fossil fuel heating systems will be replaced with air source heat pumps, while the installation of solar panels will provide the centre with a source of renewable energy. Additional installations include double glazing and heat recovery, which will also improve the overall energy efficiency of the site. 

Wychavon District Council 

Wychavon District Council has been awarded £149,900 to decarbonise Pershore Police Station in Worcestershire. The fossil fuel heating system will be replaced with an air source heat pump. Energy efficiency measures to be fitted include new cavity wall insulation and pipework improvements. 

East of England 

Bedford College Group  

Bedford College Group has been awarded £211,000 to decarbonise its South Bank Arts Centre campus in Bedford, replacing the existing fossil fuel heating systems with an air source heat pump. The overall energy efficiency of the site will be improved through the installation of a building energy management system. 

Cambridge City Council  

Cambridge City Council has been awarded £297,528 to decarbonise Cambridge Crematorium, along with Trumpington Pavilion and Brown’s Field, which both serve as community centres. 

Cambridgeshire County Council  

Cambridgeshire County Council has been awarded £654,050 to support the decarbonisation of three schools in the county: Samuel Pepys Special School, Huntingdon Primary School, and Clarkson Infants School. The funding will enable the replacement of existing end-of-life gas boilers with air source heat pumps at each site. To improve energy efficiency, measures such as pipework upgrades and draught-proofing will also be carried out.  

East Suffolk Council  

East Suffolk Council has been awarded £3,133,040 for three projects to support the decarbonisation of key leisure facilities in Leiston and Lowestoft, including Leiston Leisure Centre, Deben Leisure Centre, and Water Lane Leisure Centre. Existing heating systems will be replaced with air source heat pumps at all sites. Solar panels will be installed to support renewable energy generation, and new roof insulation will be fitted at Deben and Water Lane Leisure Centres to improve energy efficiency.

Essex County Council  

Essex County Council has been awarded £820,000 to decarbonise multiple buildings across the county: Saffron Walden Community Centre, Chapter House Nursing Home in Maldon, Matching Green Church of England Primary School in Harlow, Vange Library in Basildon, Boxted St Peter’s Church of England School in Colchester, St Margaret’s Church of England School in Halstead, and Acorn Family Hub in Halstead. Each building will be fitted with an air source heat pump, and roof and loft insulation will be added at selected locations to improve their overall energy efficiency.  

Dacorum Borough Council

Dacorum Borough Council has been awarded £260,060 to decarbonise Berkhamsted Civic Centre, a multi-use community building in Berkhamsted. Existing heating systems will be replaced with air source heat pumps, and new electric heaters will also be installed. New loft insulation and double glazing will be fitted to improve the energy efficiency of the centre.

Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency, Hertfordshire 

Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency has been awarded £10,944,862 to decarbonise its South Mimms site in Hertfordshire. The site will be fitted with an air source heat pump and an electric boiler will also be installed. Pipework upgrades across the site will also help to improve the overall energy efficiency. 

Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory is based in Greater London and will invest this funding in the East of England. 

Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust  

Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £8,944,984 to support the decarbonisation of Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in Norwich. Existing gas fired boilers will be replaced with an air source heat pump. 

North Hertfordshire District Council  

North Hertfordshire District Council has been awarded £1,172,000 to help decarbonise four buildings: Hitchin Town Hall, North Hertfordshire Museum, the District Council Office, and North Herts Leisure Centre. As part of the project, old gas boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps, and solar panels will be installed at Hitchin Town Hall to provide renewable energy. New LED lighting, heat recovery systems, and upgraded glazing across the sites will further improve overall energy efficiency.  

North Norfolk District Council  

North Norfolk District Council has been awarded £150,000 to decarbonise Fakenham Leisure Centre in Fakenham, which is often used by Fakenham Academy Secondary School. Fossil fuel heating systems will be replaced with air source heat pumps. A new ventilation system and upgrades to pipework, draught-proofing and the building energy management system will also improve the energy efficiency of

Suffolk County Council

Suffolk County Council has been awarded £890,000 for five projects to decarbonise several buildings across the county, including Beaumont Community Primary School in Hadleigh, Barningham Church of England Primary School in Bury St Edmunds, Stowmarket Library, Lowestoft Library, and the Brandon Centre in Suffolk. Existing heating systems will be replaced with air source heat pumps at all locations. New roof and loft insulation, glazing, and building energy management systems will be installed.

Tendring District Council

Tendring District Council has been awarded £1,204,481 to support the decarbonisation of Clacton Leisure Centre in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex. The existing fossil fuel heating system will be replaced with air source heat pumps, while solar panels will be fitted to provide the centre with a source of renewable energy. To improve the energy efficiency of the site, a new building energy management system will be installed, and improvements will also be made to the building’s pipework.

The Diocese of Chelmsford Vine Schools Trust  

The Diocese of Chelmsford Vine Schools Trust has been awarded £694,830 to decarbonise three primary schools: Bulphan Church of England Primary School, Southminster Church of England Primary School and St James’ Church of England Primary School. Each school will replace their old fossil fuel heating systems with air source heat pumps, while solar panels will be installed at Bulphan and St James’ to provide them with a source of renewable energy. New electric boilers, double glazing, and pipework insulation will be fitted across the school sites to improve their overall energy efficiency.  

Uttlesford District Council           

Uttlesford District Council has been awarded £626,299 to support the decarbonisation of its main offices in Saffron Walden. The building, originally constructed as a hospital in the 1860s, is Grade II listed and located within a Conservation Area. The existing gas boiler, which is no longer operational, will be replaced with an air source heat pump. The installation of solar panels will also provide a source of renewable energy. Measures to improve the overall energy efficiency of its main offices include new draught-proofing, as well as roof and loft insulation. 

West Suffolk Council   

West Suffolk Council has been awarded £4,150,000 to support the decarbonisation of Bury St Edmunds and Haverhill Leisure Centres. Air source heat pumps will be installed in both buildings. Solar panels will also be installed to provide a source of renewable energy. Energy efficiency measures will include pipework improvements and cavity wall insulation. 

South East 

Activate Learning, Berkshire Activate Learning has been awarded £4,180,567 to decarbonise Reading College in Berkshire. An air source heat pump will replace the existing heating system, while the installation of solar panels will provide the college with a source of renewable energy. A new building energy management system will also be installed to help improve the overall energy efficiency of the college campus. 

Cherwell District Council  

Cherwell District Council has been awarded £1,099,862 to decarbonise four buildings: Stratfield Brake Leisure Centre in Kidlington, Woodgreen and Spiceball Leisure Centres in Banbury, and one building at North Oxfordshire Academy. Air source heat pumps will be installed at each site, while the energy efficiency of all sites will be improved with enhanced insulation, new pipework, and double glazing.  

Crawley Borough Council  

Crawley Borough Council has been awarded £168,000 to support the decarbonisation of three community centres in Crawley: Furnace Green Community Centre, Pound Hill Community Centre, and Three Bridges Community Centre. Air source heat pumps will be installed at each site. Additional measures, including roof insulation and a centralised lighting control system, will improve the overall energy efficiency of the centres. 

Dartford Science and Technology College  

Dartford Science and Technology College has been awarded £635,000 to support the decarbonisation of three buildings across its campus. The existing fossil fuel heating system will be replaced with both air source and water source heat pumps. The energy efficiency of the college will be improved through the installation of an electric panel heater, wall insulation and LED lighting. 

Department for Transport   

Department for Transport has received £64,674 to support the decarbonisation of Hangar T49, part of an Air Accidents Investigation Branch site. An air source heat pump will be installed to heat the building, and improvements will also be made to the hot water distribution system. 

Department for Transport is based in Greater London and this funding will be invested in the South East.  

Diocese of Chichester  

The Diocese of Chichester has been awarded £550,000 to support the decarbonisation of St Mary’s Church of England Primary School and Arundel Church of England Primary School, both located in West Sussex. The existing fossil fuel boilers at each school will be replaced with air source heat pumps. Energy efficiency measures to be installed include wall and roof insulation.  

Fareham Borough Council  

Fareham Borough Council has been awarded £450,000 to support the decarbonisation of Broadcut Depot, which houses several council services including building maintenance, highway maintenance, refuse collection, and the transport repair centre. Two end-of-life boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps. To improve energy efficiency, measures such as draught-proofing and improvements to the hot water distribution system will also be carried out.  

Folkestone and Hythe District Council  

Folkestone and Hythe District Council has been awarded £1,442,629 to decarbonise Folca, a former department store recently acquired to support the regeneration of the town centre. Existing fossil fuel heating systems will be replaced with an  air source heat pump, and solar panels will also be installed on the building. A new building energy management system and LED lighting, as well as improved insulation and glazing, will increase the energy efficiency of the site.  

Kent County Council  

Kent County Council has been awarded £30,000 to support the decarbonisation of Cranbrook Library, located in Cranbook. The existing fossil fuel heating system will be replaced with an air source heat pump, and the overall energy efficiency of the

Mary Hare School, Newbury, Berkshire  

Mary Hare School, a residential school for deaf students, has been awarded £1,640,000 to support the decarbonisation of several buildings across its campus, including the Sixth Form accommodation block and the swimming pool. End-of-life fossil fuel boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps, and solar panels will be installed. Wall insulation improvements will also be installed across the campus to enhance the energy efficiency of the school.

Medway NHS Foundation Trust, Gillingham

Medway NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £11,487,933 to support the decarbonisation of Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham, which is now Kent’s largest and busiest hospital. The existing fossil fuel heating systems will be replaced with both water source and air source heat pumps. Electrical system improvements will also be carried out to support overall energy efficiency.

Milton Keynes College   

Milton Keynes College has been awarded £1,080,000 to decarbonise the main building of its Bletchley Campus. The existing fossil fuel heating system will be replaced with an air source heat pump. New ventilation systems will also be fitted to improve, the energy efficiency of the building.  

Milton Keynes Council  

Milton Keynes Council has been awarded £4,348,376 to support the decarbonisation of several key buildings, including Central Library, administrative offices, and Woughton Leisure Centre in Leadenhall. All buildings will be connected to an existing district heat network, while pipework upgrades to some of the buildings will help improve their overall energy efficiency. 

New Forest District Council, Hampshire  

New Forest District Council has been awarded £1,800,000 to install an air source heat pump at Applemore Leisure Centre in Southampton. Solar panels will also be installed to provide a source of renewable energy. Energy efficiency measures including new roof and wall insulation, as well as new ventilation systems, will also be installed to improve the overall energy efficiency of the leisure centre. 

Oxford Brookes University  

Oxford Brookes University has been awarded £5,284,130 to connect 10 student residence buildings to an onsite district heat network. 

Oxford Diocesan Board of Education  

The Oxford Diocesan Board of Education has been awarded £585,000 to support the decarbonisation of St Nicolas and North Hinksey Church of England Primary School in Oxfordshire, and Goring Church of England Primary School in Berkshire. Air source heat pumps will replace the end-of-life boilers in each building, while energy efficiency will be improved through the installation of cavity wall insulation.  

Oxford Diocesan Schools Trust 

Oxford Diocesan Schools Trust has been awarded £317,805 to decarbonise Tackley Church of England Primary School and Christopher Rawlins Church of England Primary School in Oxfordshire. Both schools will be fitted with air source heat pumps and electric panel heaters. Energy efficiency upgrades will include cavity wall insulation and draught-proofing. 

Oxfordshire County Council  

Oxfordshire County Council has been awarded £360,000 to decarbonise sixteen buildings across the county, including Summertown Library, Didcot Fire Station, Drayton Highways Depot in Abingdon and Abingdon Children and Family Centre. Each building will have its existing fossil fuel heating system removed and replaced with an air source heat pump. The overall energy efficiency of multiple sites will be improved with the installation of new double glazing and loft and wall insulation. 

Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £77,065 to decarbonise Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford. An air source heat pump and an electric boiler will be installed. Energy efficiency measures to be undertaken include the installation of new building energy management systems.

Sir Roger Manwood’s School, Kent  

​Sir Roger Manwood’s School has been awarded £330,000 to decarbonise the Grange building, which houses the school’s Sixth Form area. The end-of-life gas boiler will be replaced with an air source heat pump, while the overall energy efficiency of the building will be improved through the installation of new insulation, double glazing, LED lighting and pipework upgrades.  

South Oxfordshire District Council  

South Oxfordshire District Council has been awarded £1,500,000 to decarbonise Abbey Sports Centre and Henley Leisure Centre. Air source heat pumps and solar panels will be installed at both sites. Additionally, roof insulation and an air handling unit will be fitted at Henley Leisure Centre.  

St Bede’s School, Surrey 

St Bede’s School has been awarded £600,000 to decarbonise several teaching buildings. Old fossil fuel heating systems will be replaced with air source and water source heat pumps, while the energy efficiency of the school will be improved with new floor insulation, window glazing, cavity wall insulation and draught-proofing. 

Surrey County Council

Surrey County Council has been awarded £737,000 for three projects to decarbonise several buildings across the county, including Wray Park Training Centre in Reigate (used by Surrey Fire and Rescue Service), Ash Library, Libertas Community Home in Guildford, Banstead Youth Centre, Epsom Fire Station, Burbank Community Home in Woking, and Reigate Library. Air source heat pumps will be installed in all buildings, while various energy efficiency measures including new wall and loft insulation, LED lighting upgrades, pipework improvements, and enhanced glazing will be fitted across the buildings to improve energy efficiency.

Thanet District Council, Margate  

Thanet District Council has been awarded £1,410,000 to support the decarbonisation of four public buildings: Thanet Gateway, Ramsgate Leisure Centre, Hartsdown Leisure Centre, and the Kent Innovation Centre. All buildings will be equipped with air source heat pumps, and energy efficient upgrades will include the installation of new glazing and insulation.  

The Avenue Special Needs Academy Trust, Reading

The Avenue Special Needs Academy Trust has been awarded £683,976 to decarbonise The Avenue Special Needs School in Reading. The existing gas-fired boiler will be replaced with an air source heat pump. The school’s energy efficiency will be improved through draught proofing, and solar panels will support renewable energy generation.   

The Forest School Academy Trust, Winnersh  

The Forest School Academy Trust has been awarded £1,224,095 to decarbonise five buildings at Forest School in Winnersh. Each building’s existing gas-fired boiler will be replaced with an air source heat pump. Energy efficiency measures to be installed include new double glazing and cavity wall insulation. 

Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council  

Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council has been awarded £209,690 to install an air source heat pump at the council-owned Poult Wood Golf Course. 

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £16,700,000 to support the decarbonisation of Southampton General Hospital. Existing heating systems will be replaced with both air source and water source heat pumps. Additionally, an electric boiler will be fitted within the hospital and energy efficiency upgrades will be made through the installation of external wall insulation.

West Berkshire District Council  

West Berkshire District Council has been awarded £2,800,000 to install an air source heat pump at Northcroft Leisure Centre in Newbury. The project will also include the installation of solar panels to provide a source of renewable energy. Energy efficiency measures to be installed include new wall insulation and heat recovery systems. 

West Oxfordshire District Council  

West Oxfordshire District Council has been awarded £2,326,600 to install an air source heat pump at Chipping Norton Leisure Centre. Energy efficiency improvements will be made through the installation of an electric boiler and upgrades to the building’s energy management system. 

West Sussex County Council  

West Sussex County Council has been awarded £600,000 to support the decarbonisation of several key buildings, including three fire stations in East Preston, Bognor Regis, and Arundel, as well as a children’s social care facility and Littlehampton Library. Each building will be equipped with an air source heat pump, while East Preston Fire Station, Arundel Fire Station, and Littlehampton Library will be fitted with solar panels to provide the buildings with a source of renewable energy. Various energy efficiency measures, including LED lighting and wall and roof insulation, will be implemented across the sites.  

South West 

Avon and Somerset Constabulary  

Avon and Somerset Constabulary has been awarded £140,000 to support the decarbonisation of Yeovil Police Station. Old gas-fired boilers will be replaced with an air source heat pump, while upgrades to roof and wall insulation, along with new glazing, will improve the energy efficiency of the site.  

Bath and North East Somerset Council   

Bath and North East Somerset Council has been awarded £312,284 for two projects to support the decarbonisation of Keynsham Civic Centre and Carrswood Adult Day Care Centre, which provides services to adults with learning disabilities. Air source heat pumps will be installed at both sites.   

Bath Spa University  

Bath Spa University has been awarded £3,000,000 to decarbonise several buildings at its historic Newton Park Campus, which includes the university’s main facilities as well as student halls of residence. Most buildings on the campus will be connected to an on-site heating network, while others will have air and ground source heat pumps installed. Solar panels will also be fitted across the campus to provide the university with a source of renewable energy. Additional measures, such as LED lighting, improved wall and roof insulation, and upgraded window glazing will improve the overall energy efficiency of the campus.  

Bristol City Council  

Bristol City Council has been awarded a total of £1,480,749 for two projects to support the decarbonisation of several buildings, including Southmead Children’s Centre, Junction 3 Library, Flax Bourton Coroner’s Court, The Georgian House Museum, and Blaise Castle Museum. All buildings will be fitted with an air source heat pump. The installation of heating control valves, improved hot water distribution, and building energy management systems across the sites will help improve their overall energy efficiency. 

Cornwall Council   

Cornwall Council has been awarded £1,262,000 to install an air source heat pump and an electric boiler at New County Hall, a Grade II listed council building.

Central Swindon North Parish Council

Central Swindon North Parish Council has been awarded £295,000 to support the decarbonisation of several community centres across Swindon, including Des Moffatt Western Community Centre, John Moulton Hall Community Centre, Even Swindon Community Centre, and Gorse Hill Community Centre. All buildings will be fitted with air source heat pumps and have building energy management systems installed to improve their overall energy efficiency.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service  

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service has been awarded £130,000 to support the decarbonisation of three fire stations: Bampton Fire Station, Witheridge Fire Station, and Porlock Fire Station. Existing end-of-life oil-fired boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps at all stations. Across the sites, various energy efficiency measures will be installed including insulation upgrades, new hot water flow restrictors and building energy management systems.  

Devon County Council  

Devon County Council has been awarded £670,267 to support the decarbonisation of Mapleton Community Care Home, the Rushbrook Centre, and Rosebank Day Centre, the latter two serving as youth centres. Existing fossil fuel boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps, and solar panels will be installed at Rosebank Day Centre and Mapleton Community Care Home to provide renewable energy. Additional improvements include a new energy management system, upgraded insulation, and new glazing to improve energy efficiency.  

Devon Partnership NHS Trust   

Devon Partnership NHS Trust has received £2,112,241 to help decarbonise the Grade II listed Wonford House Hospital, which provides mental health and learning disability services to the local community. As part of the project, existing gas boilers will be removed, and the hospital will be connected to the Exeter Energy Network’s district heat network. Upgrades to pipework and improvements to the hot water distribution system will also boost the overall energy efficiency of the site.  

Dorset Police

Dorset Police has been awarded £387,225 to decarbonise Blandford Police Station in Dorset. The existing heating system will be replaced with an air source heat pump. Energy efficiency improvements include modern electrical upgrades.

Exeter City Council  

Exeter City Council has been awarded £3,554,000 to support the decarbonisation of Riverside Leisure Centre, a community hub featuring a 25-metrer pool, a six-court sports hall, two squash courts, and more. The end-of-life fossil fuel boilers will be replaced with air source and water source heat pumps. Energy efficiency upgrades including the installation of a new heat recovery system and roof insulation improvements will also help improve the overall energy efficiency of the leisure centre.  

Exeter College  

Exeter College has been awarded £1,753,252 to connect buildings on their Hele Road campus to the Exeter Energy Network, a local district heat network.  

Falmouth Exeter Plus 

Falmouth Exeter Plus has been awarded £55,000 to support the decarbonisation of Penryn Campus at the University of Exeter. Old fossil fuel heating systems will be replaced with air source heat pumps. 

Forest of Dean District Council 

Forest of Dean District Council has been awarded £200,000 to decarbonise Five Acres Leisure Centre in Gloucestershire. The site will be fitted with air source heat pumps as well as new loft insulation, building energy management systems, and heat recovery systems. 

Futura Learning Partnership, Bristol   

Futura Learning Partnership has been awarded £720,000 to support the decarbonisation of St Nicholas Chantry Church of England Primary School in Somerset, and Wansdyke Primary School in Bristol. Ageing gas boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps at both schools.  

Gloucester Diocese   

Gloucester Diocese has received £251,258 to support the decarbonisation of Leonard Stanley Church of England Primary School in Gloucestershire. The old fossil fuel boiler will be replaced with an air source heat pump. Energy efficiency measures to be installed include new electric heaters and wall and roof insulation.  

Ministry of Defence 

The Ministry of Defence has been awarded £1,248,944 to decarbonise its Bovington Garrison in Dorset, a key training base for armoured fighting vehicle crews. Old fossil fuel boilers will be replaced with an air source heat pump, while the site’s overall energy efficiency will be improved through cavity wall insulation.  

The Ministry of Defence is based in Greater London and will invest this funding in the South West. 

North Devon Council  

North Devon Council has been awarded £762,065 to support the decarbonisation of two sites: Brynsworthy Environmental Centre, a domestic recycling and office facility, and The Landmark Theatre in Ilfracombe. The funding will enable the replacement of existing gas and oil-fired boilers at both sites with air source heat pumps.  

Plymouth City Council  

Plymouth City Council has been awarded £316,691 to support the decarbonisation of the East End Business Centre and Derriford Park, both of which serve as office spaces. Air source heat pumps will be installed at both sites, while pipework improvements and new building energy management systems will help improve the overall energy efficiency of the spaces.  

Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £22,656,865 to decarbonise its Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital sites in Wonford and Heavitree. Both sites will connect to the local district heat network, while energy efficiency upgrades including pipework and hot water distribution improvements will also be installed across the two sites.

South Gloucestershire Council  

South Gloucestershire Council has been awarded £465,000 to decarbonise two primary schools: Abbotswood Primary School and Shield Road Primary School in South Gloucestershire. Old oil-fired heating systems will be replaced with air source heat pumps at both school sites.   

South Hams District Council  

South Hams District Council has been awarded £490,000 to support the decarbonisation of Follaton House, a Grade II listed building that provides office accommodation for the Council. Air source heat pumps will be installed, and the energy efficiency of the site will be improved through the installation of upgraded insulation and new draught-proofing.  

South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust  

South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £160,000 to decarbonise Falfield Ambulance Station in Wotton-under-Edge and Stroud Ambulance Station. The existing fossil fuel boilers at both stations will be replaced with air source heat pumps and electric heaters. Energy efficiency measures to be installed across the sites include new wall and cavity insulation. 

Torbay Council  

Torbay Council has been awarded £311,600 to support the decarbonisation of Sherwell Valley Primary School in Torquay. Ageing fossil fuel heating systems will be replaced with air source heat pumps and upgrades will be made to the building’s wall insulation.  

University of Exeter  

University of Exeter has been awarded £8,601,071 to connect multiple campus buildings to a local heat network. Energy efficiency improvements will also be undertaken through upgrades to various hot water and heating distribution systems across the campus.    

University of Plymouth   

University of Plymouth has been awarded £2,005,824 to support the decarbonisation of several buildings at its main campus site. Existing end-of-life fossil fuel heating systems will be replaced with a combination of air source and water source heat pumps across the teaching buildings. 

Wiltshire Council

Wiltshire Council has been awarded £939,594 to decarbonise the Bourne Hill council offices in Salisbury and Devizes Leisure Centre in Devizes. Air source and water source heat pumps will be installed in both buildings.

Greater London 

Barnet and Southgate College  

Barnet and Southgate College has been awarded £4,308,689 for three projects to support the decarbonisation across its Barnet, Colindale, and Southgate campuses. At all three campuses, existing fossil fuel heating systems will be replaced with air source heat pumps. Solar panels will also be installed at the Barnet and Southgate campuses to help generate renewable energy on site. Additionally, new building energy management systems will be installed at all sites to improve their energy efficiency. Additional energy efficiency upgrades will also be undertaken at the Southgate campus, including the installation of new roof insulation and glazing. 

Barts Health NHS Trust  

Barts Health NHS Trust has been awarded £13,750,000 to replace existing gas-fired boilers with both air source and water source heat pumps at Newham University Hospital. Solar panels will also be installed to provide a source of renewable energy for the hospital. Energy efficiency measures to be fitted include new LED lighting, thermal stores, and hot water distribution system upgrades across the hospital site. 

Croydon Health Services NHS Trust

Croydon Health Services NHS Trust has been awarded £14,278,214 to decarbonise Croydon University Hospital in South London. Existing steam boilers will be replaced with both air source and water source heat pumps. Solar panels will also be installed to provide the hospital with a source of renewable energy. New double glazing and ventilation improvements will also be made to improve the energy efficiency of the site. 

East Surrey College, Croydon 

East Surrey College has been awarded £1,983,990 to support the decarbonisation of its John Ruskin College campus in Croydon. Old fossil fuel heating systems will be replaced with an air source heat pump and solar panels will be fitted to provide the college with a source of renewable energy. A new building energy management system will also be installed to help improve the overall energy efficiency of the site. 

Enfield Council   

Enfield Council has been awarded £18,602,069 to connect multiple schools and academies to the Meridian Water Heat Network, a district heating system in Enfield. The buildings included in this project are Heron Hall Academy, College of Haringey, Waverley School, Edmonton County School, Winchmore School, St. John and St. James School, and Oasis Academy.  

Greenshaw Learning Trust 

Greenshaw Learning Trust has been awarded £350,000 to support the decarbonisation of Wallington County Grammar School in Surrey. Air source heat pumps will be installed in each building, replacing old fossil fuel boilers. Energy efficiency measures will include heat meters, pipework upgrades, and new building energy management systems. 

Harris Federation, Croydon   

Harris Federation has been awarded £5,100,000 to support the decarbonisation of five schools: Harris City Academy Crystal Palace, Harris Academy Beckenham, Harris Primary Academy Beckenham, Harris Primary Academy Mayflower, and Harris Academy Greenwich. Each school will receive a combination of air source and water source heat pumps as well as several energy efficiency measures including new building energy management systems. 

Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has received £11,910,207 to decarbonise Homerton Hospital in the London Borough of Hackney. The existing heating system will be replaced with an air source heat pump, while solar panels will be fitted across the site to produce a source of renewable energy. Upgrades to loft and wall insulation, glazing, and new LED lighting and building energy management systems will also improve the overall energy efficiency of the hospital.

Horniman Museum and Gardens, London  

Horniman Museum and Gardens has been awarded £600,000 to decarbonise its Grade II listed site, including the Centre for Understanding the Environment (CUE) and the Butterfly House. The CUE currently serves as a library and office space, while the Butterfly House houses the museum’s tropical indoor garden. Existing fossil fuel heating systems will be replaced with air source heat pumps at both sites, while the overall energy efficiency of the buildings will be improved through double glazing, draught-proofing, and a new heat recovery system.  

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust 

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust has been awarded £6,429,262 to decarbonise two buildings at Charing Cross Hospital in Hammersmith. End-of-life fossil fuel boilers will be replaced with both air source and water source heat pumps. New cavity wall insulation and cooling systems will also be fitted to improve the overall energy efficiency of the hospital. 

Kew Gardens, Richmond 

Kew Gardens has been awarded £1,507,232 to decarbonise The Lower Nursery, a non-public greenhouse at the Royal Botanic Gardens. The existing gas heating systems will be replaced with a combination of air source and water source heat pumps.

Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has received £1,392,000 to decarbonise three healthcare sites in the Kingston and Richmond areas: Ham Clinic, the Richmond Rehabilitation Unit, and the Mortuary and Patient Affairs office. All buildings will be fitted with air source heat pumps. Additionally, Ham Clinic and Richmond Rehabilitation Unit will be equipped with solar panels to provide a source of renewable energy. Energy efficiency measures across all three sites include new cavity wall and loft insulation, building energy management systems, thermal stores, electrical distribution enhancements and pipework improvements.

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust has been awarded £17,790,274 to decarbonise University Hospital Lewisham. A ground source heat pump will be installed to replace the existing gas-fired steam system. Upgrades to pipework will also be made to improve the hospital’s overall energy efficiency. 

London Borough of Brent  

London Borough of Brent has been awarded £667,628 to support the decarbonisation of two council buildings: Willesden Cemetery Office and Willesden Green Library. Existing gas-fired heating systems will be replaced with air source heat pumps. The installation of new building energy management systems and improved loft and wall insulation at both sites will also help improve energy efficiency.  

London Borough of Camden  

London Borough of Camden has been awarded £7,838,296 for three projects across community facilities in the borough. Brecknock Primary School and Langtry Children’s Centre will replace their heating systems with air source heat pumps, along with upgrades to LED lighting and improved insulation. Kentish Town Sports Centre will also switch from gas-fired heating to an air source heat pump. Additionally, Swiss Cottage Sports Centre will replace its heating system with a combination of air and water source heat pumps  

London Borough of Ealing  

The London Borough of Ealing has been awarded £3,840,000 for two projects to support the decarbonisation of Perceval House, a council office building, and three primary schools: Drayton Green Primary School in Ealing, John Perryn Primary School in Acton, and Mandeville Primary School in Greenford. An air source heat pump will be installed at Perceval House, along with solar panels and a new building energy management system to improve energy efficiency. At the three schools, a combination of air source and water source heat pumps will be fitted, alongside new thermal stores and electrical upgrades to enhance overall energy efficiency.

London Borough of Hackney

London Borough of Hackney has been awarded £6,594,250 to decarbonise nine schools: Gainsborough Primary School, Grazebrook Primary School, Hoxton Garden Primary, Kingsmead Primary School, Lauriston School, Southwold Primary School, Thomas Fairchild Community School, The Urswick Church of England Secondary School, and Woodberry Down Community Primary School. All schools will be fitted with air source heat pumps, along with measures such as thermal stores and building energy management systems to improve the overall energy efficiency.

London Borough of Haringey 

London Borough of Haringey has been awarded £1,436,763 to decarbonise Haringey Civic Centre, a Grade II listed building in Wood Green. The building will be fitted with both air source and water source heat pumps. Energy efficiency measures to be installed include new glazing, roof and wall insulation and draught-proofing. 

London Borough of Lambeth  

London Borough of Lambeth has been awarded £1,020,000 to support the decarbonisation of three schools: Granton Primary School, Wyvill Primary School and Telferscot Primary School. Existing fossil fuel heating systems in each school will be replaced with air source heat pumps.  New building energy management systems, loft insulation improvements, and the installation of thermal stores across the schools will help improve energy efficiency. 

London Borough of Lewisham  

London Borough of Lewisham has been awarded £1,195,000 for four projects to support the decarbonisation of Stillness Infant School, Stillness Junior School, Baring Primary School, and Fairlawn Primary School. For each school, air source heat pumps and electric point-of-use heaters will be installed. At Stillness Infant School, cavity wall insulation will be fitted while Stillness Junior School will have roof insulation, upgraded glazing, and draught-proofing measures installed. Baring Primary School will have roof insulation and draught-proofing energy efficiency upgrades, and Fairlawn Primary School will have new cavity wall insulation, draught-proofing, and glazing installed to improve its energy efficiency.  

London Borough of Newham

London Borough of Newham has been awarded £1,578,506 to support the decarbonisation of Roman Road Primary School, Brampton Primary School and Central Park School. Fossil fuel heating systems will be replaced with air source heat pumps at all schools. Energy efficiency upgrades will include insulation improvements and draught-proofing. 

London Borough of Richmond upon Thames  

London Borough of Richmond upon Thames has been awarded £7,000,000 to decarbonise five sites: Pools on the Park Leisure Centre, Teddington Pools Leisure Centre, Briar House Community Centre, Sheen Lane Library, and Orleans House Gallery. Each building will be fitted with an air source heat pump, while four sites will also be equipped with solar panels.  Energy efficiency measures to be undertaken across the sites include new building energy management systems, improved insulation, upgraded pipework, and new LED lighting.  

London Borough of Southwark  

London Borough of Southwark been awarded £9,976,683 to deliver two projects that will support the decarbonisation of Crawford Primary School in Camberwell and five leisure and sports facilities: Camberwell Leisure Centre, Dulwich Leisure Centre, Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre, Surrey Docks Watersports Centre, and The Castle Centre in Elephant & Castle. At Crawford Primary School, non-functional boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps, while energy efficiency improvements will include new pipework insulation and draughtproofing. All five leisure centres will benefit from the installation of a mix of air source and water source heat pumps, as well as energy efficiency improvements including enhanced insulation and new double glazing. 

London Fire Brigade  

London Fire Brigade has been awarded £800,000 to decarbonise Biggin Hill Fire Station in Bromley. The existing gas heating system will be replaced with an air source heat pump, and an electric heater will also be installed.  

London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust  

London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust has been awarded £5,879,955 to support the decarbonisation of Ealing Hospital. Existing fossil fuel boilers will be replaced with air source heat pumps. The energy efficiency of the site will be improved through the installation of roof and pipework insulation, as well as a new building energy management system. Solar panels will also be fitted to provide a source of renewable energy for the hospital.   

London South Bank University  

London South Bank University has been awarded £206,700 to install an air source heat pump at the Clarence Centre, which houses its Student Enterprise team and an innovation space.  

National Maritime Museum

The National Maritime Museum has been awarded £200,000 to support the decarbonisation of the Royal Observatory Greenwich, a Grade I listed building of historical significance. An air source heat pump and an electric heater will be installed. 

National Portrait Gallery in London has been awarded £5,869,600 to support the decarbonisation of the main public gallery space and the Orange Street building, which houses the archives and library. The existing gas heating systems in both buildings will be replaced with air source heat pumps.  

Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames 

Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames has been awarded £1,350,000 to support the decarbonisation of Tolworth Recreation Centre. The old fossil fuel heating system will be replaced with an air source heat pump and an electric panel heater. 

Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust  

Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded £7,320,498 to support the decarbonisation of the Royal Free Hospital. Existing fossil fuel heating systems will be replaced with a water source heat pump.  

Transport for London  

Transport for London has been awarded £1,668,814 for two projects to support the decarbonisation of several sites including: Beckton Storage Depot, Rickmansworth Track Office, an accommodation site for train crew at West Ruislip, and the Walworth Depot, which includes a bus garage and offices. Air source heat pumps will be installed at all locations. Electric point-of-use heaters will also be fitted at Beckton Storage Depot and the Walworth Depot site. Additional measures, such as glazing, upgraded pipework, and improvements to building management systems, will improve the overall energy efficiency of the buildings. 

Wandsworth Borough Council 

Wandsworth Borough Council has been awarded £4,700,000 to support the decarbonisation of five sites: Putney Leisure centre, Oakdene Residential Nursing Home, Gwynneth Morgan Nursing Home, Falcon Grove Community Centre and Wandsworth New Town Hall.  These buildings serve a variety of community functions, including leisure, residential care, social services, and local government services. Existing end-of-life heating systems will be replaced with air source heat pumps at all sites. 

Across regions 

REAch2 Academy Trust, Staffordshire  

REAch2 Academy Trust has been awarded £1,325,000 to support the decarbonisation of three primary schools: Martlesham Primary Academy in Suffolk, Oakfield Primary Academy in Warwickshire, and White Meadows Primary Academy in West Sussex. Existing end-of-life heating systems will be replaced with air source heat pumps across all school sites. 

REAch2 Academy Trust is based in the West Midlands and will invest its funding in the West Midlands, East of England, and South East. 

Wales 

Ministry of Defence  

Ministry of Defence has been awarded £2,500,000 to support the decarbonisation of two buildings at its Sealand site in North Wales. The site specialises in the maintenance, repair, upgrade, and management of defence electronics. Existing fossil fuel boilers in both buildings will be replaced with air source heat pumps.  

Ministry of Defence is based in Greater London and will invest this funding in Wales.
