This guidance explains how eligible providers can apply for capital investment to accommodate additional post-16 learners.

The deadline to apply for the most recent round of funding passed in April 2026.

‘Post-16 and construction skills capacity funding 2026 to 2030 in non-devolved areas’ guidance provides information on:

  • the purpose of the 2 funds
  • who is eligible to apply
  • how to apply
  • how applications will be assessed and funding awarded

This national bidding round was open only to eligible providers seeking to increase education and training capacity at sites located in non-devolved areas. For sites in areas where funding has been devolved, applicants should engage the relevant strategic authority.

Annex A in the guidance lists all areas in England and sets out post-16 capacity and constructions skills capacity funding arrangements for each area.

The ‘16 to 17 population workbook’ provides a tool for prospective applications to help determine the projected population growth for their areas. Where an area is identified as having low population growth, applications for post-16 capacity funding should not be submitted.
