The Environment Agency has received a new bespoke application for an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 from Southern Water Services Limited.

Regulated facility type

This is a new bespoke application for the storage and transfer of biosolids (cake) and the storage of grit and screenings in the cake pad area of the site; along with discharge of waste directly into the pumping station, to be pumped to Sandown WRC for treatment.

The applicant is seeking to set the total quantity of imported waste accepted at the Pumping Station to be 10,700 tonnes per annum (tpa). The maximum amount of cake to be stored at Fairlee Pumping Station at any one time is  3,750 tonnes. Dewatered sludge will be stored on site for a maximum of 6 months.
