Packaging collected at kerbside for recycling by UK local authorities

Large producers can check packaging that is commonly collected or has limited collection at kerbside by UK local authorities.

Details

Under extended producer responsibility (EPR) for packaging, packaging waste that’s collected at kerbside for recycling by at least 75% of UK local authorities is referred to as ‘commonly collected’. Packaging that’s collected by between 50-75% of UK local authorities is referred to as ‘limited collection’.

Large producers need to assess packaging that’s commonly or has limited collection when reporting their EPR for packaging data.

Producers who must assess and report the recyclability of their packaging using the recyclability assessment methodology (RAM) can assess:

  • commonly collected packaging as green at collection stage
  • packaging collected through limited collection as amber at collection stage
