Outward Investment: Selected economic issues

This paper summarises the available evidence on the impact of outward Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) on the UK economy and what drives outward FDI decisions. It looks at:

  • recent trends in UK outward FDI
  • the impact of outward FDI on the UK economy
  • the role of Bilateral Investment Treaties (BITs)

The report is part of a series of analytical papers supporting the ‘Trade and investment for growth’ white paper published in February 2011.
