eVisa facts and figures
Updated 12 October 2026
As of the end of 2025 there were over 10 million people accessing their eVisa.
Over half of these are people with digital pre-settled status or settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme.
This figure is calculated by comparing data on eVisas valid at the end of 2025 against UKVI account data to identify migrants accessing an eVisa.
Migrants who have become British Citizens are deducted, since this supersedes their immigration status.
The remaining eVisa holders are on a range of immigration products, the most common being Work, Study, and Graduate visas.
Since the end of 2025, even more migrants can access an eVisa, including visitors and seasonal workers.
eVisas have now fully replaced physical documents and are issued to all successful visa applicants.
Migrants can access the eVisa directly by creating a UKVI account and linking it to their eVisa or digital status. This enables them to use their eVisa for services such as Right to Work and Right to Rent. A person becomes unable to access their eVisa when their visa expires or is cancelled.
There are a number of ways to acquire a UKVI account for access to an eVisa:
- set up a UKVI account
- use the ‘UK Immigration: ID Check’ app to confirm your identity when applying for a visa
- create an account when applying for a visa - you’ll have received a UKVI account confirmation email
- replace a physical immigration document with an eVisa, for example a biometric residence permit (BRP) or biometric residence card (BRC)
- apply to the EU Settlement Scheme
