28 August 2026: Outbreak of lumpy skin disease in Israel
Updated 28 August 2026
OVS note number: 2026/41
Date: 28 August 2026
Purpose
To advise you of an outbreak of lumpy skin disease (LSD) in Israel.
Background
Israel has notified WOAH of an outbreak of LSD in cattle, which was confirmed on 20 August 2026 in the northern part of the country, near the border with Lebanon: World Animal Health Information System.
Imports of bovine embryos from Israel are already restricted due to ongoing foot and mouth disease (FMD) outbreaks. The third country list for bovine embryos has been amended to clarify that imports are also restricted for LSD.
This does not change the current import conditions for Israel. However, it ensures that bovine embryo imports would remain restricted if Israel regains freedom from either FMD or LSD, while restrictions in relation to the other disease remain.
Israel is not listed for any other commodities considered to pose a risk for LSD.
