The Environment Agency has received an application to vary (change) an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 from Skanska U K, Costain Limited and Strabag A G.

The proposed variation may have significant negative effects on humans or the environment.

The permit application is to vary the existing standard rules permit SR 2009 No.5 - inert and excavation waste transfer station below 250kte, located at Channel Gate Road, Willesden, London, NW10 6VQ, to a bespoke permit of the same nature. The changes from the existing permit will to be increase the permitted area, to increase the storage capacity, and to increase the annual throughput of the site to 3,000,000 tonnes per annum. This site will remain a transfer station for the purpose of recovery and disposal. The application includes a Site Condition Report to address the increase in the permitted area. It also includes a Noise Impact Assessment and Noise Management Plan, as well as a Dust Emissions Management Plan, to address the potential increased risk to the respective amenities. The variation is proposed to be a 24hr operation and operating 7 days per week including Bank Holidays. The maximum number of trains per day is proposed to be 16 which is a significant increase on the number of trains which used to operate at the site.
