The Environment Agency has received a new bespoke application for an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 from Anglian Water Services Limited.

1.16.17 The application is for a waste bespoke permit to store the treated cake pad area of the site for the storage of biosolids wastes imported from other Anglian water services sites including: Digested cake before it is deployed to land.

Raw cake before this is exported to AW STC’s (Sludge Treatment Centres) for treatment in an anaerobic digestion (AD) process which will generate biogas for electricity generation or limed on site when this is required. i.e. when there is no capacity in AD process.

The applicant is seeking to set the total quantity of imported waste accepted at the water recycling centre is 100,000 tonnes per annum (tpa)in line with the current T21 waste exemption. The maximum amount of cake stored at Whilton Water Recycling Centre at any one time is 2,500 tonnes and will not be stored for more than 12 months.

The water recycling centre treatment process is not included in this bespoke permit as this operates under the Urban Wastewater Treatment Regulations.
