The Environment Agency has received a new bespoke application for an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 from Sarval Limited.

Regulated facility type

The application is for a New Bespoke installations permit for an existing site which produces poultry meal and fat for the use in pet food industry. The facility is a rendering site which process poultry by-products and feathers. The activities carried out on site under the Environmental Permitting Regulations include:

•           Section 6.8 Part A(1)(c) Disposing of or recycling animal carcasses or animal waste other than by rendering or by incineration in a small waste incineration plant, at a plant with a treatment capacity exceeding 10 tonne per day of animal carcasses or animal waste or both in aggregate.

•           Section 5.4 Part A(1)(a) Disposal, recovery or a mix of disposal and recovery of non-hazardous waste with a capacity exceeding 50 tonnes per day involving one or more of the following activities: (ii) physico-chemical treatment.

•           Section 6.8 A(2)(a) Disposal of or recycling animal waste by rendering at a plant exceeding 10 tonnes per day.

  • proposed operating techniques, including an assessment of best available techniques

  • modelling and monitoring of any significant emissions to air, land or water

  • raw material usage and measures for energy efficiency and avoiding waste production
