Network Rail Infrastructure Limited have applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application, in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is for a licence to abstract water from the Berkshire Downs Chalk aquifer at Cow Lane Bridge in Reading, within the cofferdam area marked by National Grid References (NGR) SU 70359 74009, SU 70371 74013, SU 70349 74126 and SU 70341 74129. The abstracted water will be transferred into the Portman Brook at NGR SU 70595 73839 without intervening use.
The application is to abstract water as follows:

360 cubic metres an hour

8,640 cubic metres a day
Abstraction will take place each day for the purpose of dewatering to create a dry construction area.
