Species Recovery Programme call for ideas funding opportunity privacy notice

The Species Recovery Programme delivers targeted action for threatened species with bespoke needs. This call for ideas is the first phase for people to express interest in seeking funding for 2026/7 onwards.

1. Who collects your personal data

2. What personal data is collected and how it’s used

The personal data we collect about you includes:

  • name
  • job role
  • organisation name
  • email address

We use your personal data to administer the Species Recovery Programme Call for Ideas process which includes:

  • checking eligibility to respond
  • contacting you about your submission
  • dealing with enquiries

The lawful basis for processing your data is that it is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest, which is laid down by law in Sections 1 and 2 of the Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006 Act. This sets out Natural England’s general purposes. The task is the delivery of the Species Recovery Programme Call for Ideas process.

The task is to conduct the Species Recovery Programme Call for Ideas process as delegated by Defra to Natural England under section 78 of the Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006.

Responding to the Species Recovery Programme Call for Ideas is consensual.

However, once your submission has been completed and received by Natural England, the processing of your personal data is not based on consent, and you cannot withdraw it as it is necessary for the administration of the Call for Ideas process.

5. Who Natural England shares your personal data with

Natural England may share the personal data collected under this privacy notice with:

  • Environment Agency – for assessing eligibility and suitability of your response to the Call for Ideas
  • Defra – for assessing eligibility and suitability of your response to the Call for Ideas
  • external contractors who are working on behalf of Natural England to monitor and evaluate the Species Recovery Programme

Natural England respects your personal privacy when responding to access to information requests. We only share information when necessary to meet the statutory requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 and the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

6. How long Natural England holds personal data

Natural England will keep your personal data for 7 years after the end of the Call for Ideas phase for audit purposes.

7. What happens if you do not provide the data requested

If you do not provide the data, the scheme administrators will not be able to consider your response to the Call for Ideas, and you will not be eligible to be shortlisted for an invitation to apply for potential funding.

8. Transfer of data outside the UK

Natural England will not transfer your data to another country.

9. Your rights
