This economic impact assessment provides an appraisal of the policy proposals in the Nationality and Borders Bill (now Act), as it was introduced to Parliament in July 2021.

The document is therefore based on data and information from that time, and should not be taken out of context, or used as a comparator for anything more recent. 

The quantitative and qualitative appraisal in this document reflected the best available evidence, at the time, for analysis during development of the bill. This evidence included responses from the public consultation on the New Plan for Immigration, which ran between March and May 2021.

Amendments to the bill as it passed through Parliament were not appraised in this impact assessment.

On 28 April 2022, the Nationality and Borders Bill received Royal Assent and is now known as the Nationality and Borders Act 2022.
