Details of the application

The Environment Agency has received an application to vary an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 involving substantial change to a permit from European Metal Recycling Limited.

Application number

EPR/HB3604TQ/V002

Regulated facility type

Section 5.3(a)(ii), S5.4(a)(v), Section 5.6: The Operator seeks to vary their existing permit to enable it to follow recently published Guidance regarding POPs plastic waste streams. The site current accepts and mechanically treats cable waste, which involves a granulation process to allow for recycling and reclamation of the metal wastes downstream in the process, whilst the plastics are sent for disposal. The site is not amending its process or looking to accept greater quantities of waste, but requires changes to its permit to enable it to continue treating wastes which are now classified as hazardous according to the regulations. There is also an associated technical change in the quantities of non-hazardous wastes treated on the site, with them being reduced and the capacity assigned to hazardous code cable waste.

Regulated facility address

Albert Works
Kenninghall Road
Edmonton
London
N18 2PD

The application contains a description of how the proposed change(s) may affect:

  • the installation
  • the materials, substances and energy it will use and generate
  • the conditions of its site
  • the source, nature and quantity of its foreseeable emissions and their significant effects on the environment
  • the proposed techniques for preventing, reducing, and monitoring its emissions and preventing and recovering waste
  • and an outline of the main alternatives, if any, considered
