Summary

Due to the disruption of Covid-19 on training courses, the MCA will recognise online delivered accredited training, if approved by the awarding bodies, of courses outlined within MIN 648 (M) for use on UK flagged vessels and towards the issue of a Ship’s Cook Certificate of Competency.

The validity of this information notice has been extended to 2 November 2021.

1. Introduction/Background

1.1 The MCA recognises Food Hygiene/Food Safety Qualifications within MIN 648 (M) as fulfilling the requirements of the learning outcomes and assessment criteria, set out in Annex 1 of MSN 1846 (M).

1.2 Due to ongoing disruption from Covid-19, some accredited training providers are unable to conduct courses which are normally run as face to face training and are temporarily holding this training on-line. with suitable controls to ensure that it remains a regulated qualification.

2. Acceptance of online courses

2.1 Where the awarding body has given permission to training providers for courses listed in MIN 648(M) to be run online due to Covid-19 disruptions, the MCA will accept these online courses for use on UK registered vessels and towards the issue of a Ship’s Cook Certificate of Competency.
