We have committed to protecting 30% of the UK’s land and sea by 2030 (30by30). This paper explains the data-driven spatial approach used by the Government to determine England’s progress towards delivering this target. Presented here are area estimates of land already contributing to the 30by30 target, as well as land with ecological potential to contribute to this target in the future. Also included are the methodology assumptions, limitations and caveats.
