Maybrook Investments Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a licence to abstract water from East Quarry, Appley Bridge at the area between National Grid References SD 52448 09755, SD 52752 09698, SD 52755 09463 and SD 52379 09429 to transfer it to the Calico Brook at National Grid Reference SD 52770 09473 without intervening use.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 432 cubic metres an hour
  • 10,368 cubic metres a day
  • 3,784,320 cubic metres a year

Further details are: The proposed transfer is located within the Douglas catchment in the Ribble, Douglas and Crossens Abstraction Licensing Strategy area, and is for the purpose of dewatering a disused quarry. The water is proposed to be discharged into the Calico Brook via an existing outfall pipe at a rate of not greater than 120 litres per second.
