Details

This information explains what the act will do when it comes into force. It will be useful for:

  • early years settings
  • local-authority-maintained schools
  • academies
  • further education colleges
  • independent schools
  • DfE-funded independent training providers
  • privately owned training providers
  • universities and other higher education establishments

The Home Office, the Security Industry Authority and the Department for Education will publish separate statutory guidance during the implementation period before the legislation comes into force in 2027.

  1. Removed references to capacity – security tiers now reference the expected number of people (staff and learners) in attendance. Clarified that settings with under 200 people are exempt but encouraged to plan. Reiterated that this is a policy paper – formal guidance will follow before the 2027 implementation.
