This explainer aims to help businesses understand supply chain responsibility for green claims and clarify what this means in practice for different businesses and how to manage legal risk. It sets out the factors the CMA will take into account when considering how best to tackle concerns. It includes examples and checklists to help you understand what you need to do, when working with other businesses in the supply chain to help ensure that claims are not misleading. You should read this alongside the CMA’s Green Claims Code.
Green claims (sometimes called ‘environmental claims’ or ‘eco-friendly claims’) are claims that show how a product, service, brand or business provides a benefit, or is less harmful, to the environment.
This guidance is for all businesses in the supply chain. You should read it if you are:
