The Environment Agency has received a new bespoke application for an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 from Oil Salvage Limited.

The application is for an existing fuel oil storage site to become a waste oil transfer station, ie temporary storage of hazardous waste and associated activities. The operation will involve the bulk storage of mixed waste oils (maximum storage capacity of 352m3) for transfer to other sites for treatment and recovery, recycling or disposal. The site is proposed to be permitted in accordance with the Environmental Permitting (England & Wales) Regulations, as an Installation under Schedule 1; Part 2; Section 5.6 A(1) (a) Temporary storage of hazardous waste with total capacity exceeding 50 tonnes. The operator proposes to use Best Available Techniques for the design and operation of the site, based on the Waste Treatment BAT conclusions (Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2018/1147 of 10 August 2018) and the Appropriate Measures for Chemical Waste (Environment Agency 18 November 2020).
