Declaration of National Nature Reserve

Parishes of Alfriston, Cuckmere Valley, East Dean and Friston, Long Man, Seaford, Willingdon and Jevington and a non-civil parish area

County of East Sussex

Notice is hereby given that:

In pursuance of section 19(1) of the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949 and section 35(1) of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and all other powers enabling them in that behalf, Natural England has, by the Seven Sisters National Nature Reserve No.01 Declaration made on the 18th day of February 2026, declared that the Lullington Heath National Nature Reserve is extended and is to be known henceforth as Seven Sisters National Nature Reserve.

The extension land having a total area of 1478.34 hectares or thereabouts shown single or cross hatched and shaded yellow on the maps attached to the said Declaration, situated in the Parishes of Alfriston, Cuckmere Valley, East Dean and Friston, Long Man, Seaford, Willingdon and Jevington and a non-civil parish in the County of East Sussex is held by Eastbourne Borough Council, Forestry England, National Trust, Seaford Town Council, South Downs National Park Authority, South East Water and Sussex Wildlife Trust, bodies approved by Natural England to hold and manage National Nature Reserves.

The said land now having a total area of 1540.86 hectares or thereabouts is being managed as a nature reserve, and Natural England is satisfied that the land is of national importance.
