The Environment Agency has received an application to vary an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 involving substantial change to a permit from Stephenson Group Ltd.

Existing activities to remain on permit (changes under these activities in application constitute normal variations):

S4.1 A(1) (a)(xi) Producing organic chemicals such as— surface-active agents. [Production of soap]

S4.1 A(1) (a)(ii) Producing organic chemicals such as— organic compounds containing oxygen (for example alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, esters, ethers, peroxides, phenols, epoxy resins) [Production of esters]

New activity (change from DAA to activity) for permit – this is what has triggered the substantial variation:

S5.1 A(1) (a)(ii) Disposal of non-hazardous waste with a capacity exceeding 50 tonnes per day involving one or more of the following activities, and excluding activities covered by Council Directive 91/271/EEC concerning urban waste-water treatment (a)— physico-chemical treatment [Discharge of pH and temperature treated effluent to sewer]

Existing activity, being removed from permit:

S4.1 A(1) (a)(iv) Producing organic chemicals such as— organic compounds containing nitrogen (for example amines, amides, nitrous-, nitro- or azo-compounds, nitrates, nitriles, nitrogen heterocyclics, cyanates, isocyanates, diisocyanates and di-isocyanate prepolymers) [Production of colour chemicals]
