New LRS password reset self-service coming soon

Updated 1 May 2019

1. New password reset self-service

LRS is pleased to announce that we will soon be introducing new functionality for users to proactively and securely self-reset and change their login passwords with ease from the LRS organisation portal.

The new self-service requires individuals to have one unique email address per organisation (UKPRN number) that is only accessible by you. Shared accounts are not permitted.

Once live, to use the new service, you will be prompted to verify your email address when logging into the portal. Following this, an email will be sent to the email account provided containing a link to verify the email address. Once your email is verified you can continue to login into the portal.

Please ensure you can accept emails from Do-Not-Reply@education.gov.uk. Please check with your own IT support team.

1.1 Password reset responsibility

In the future, if you forget your password you will no longer have to remember answers to your secret questions, instead you can select ‘I have forgotten my password’ and a password reset email will be sent to your verified email address.

The helpdesk and super users will not have the ability to reset passwords. It is each user’s responsibility to ensure their email address is maintained at all times.

1.2 Non-verified email addresses

Super users will have the ability to resend the email containing the link to verify a user’s email address and maintain user details including email addresses. Before resending the link, we recommend the super user and user validate the correct email address details that are held by LRS.

2. Important information for super users

2.1 Housekeeping

In preparation for this new functionality, super users need to perform some essential housekeeping:

  • delete any user accounts
  • validate email details with the user community to ensure the correct information is held by LRS
  • identify any users using the same or generic email addresses, and update these accounts to a unique email address

2.2 Creating new user accounts

A temporary password will no longer be created when registering new user accounts. Going forward, users will receive an email to verify their email details and create a password.

Super users will also have the ability to resend verification emails to new users if their link expires in order complete the registration.

Where an existing user has not verified their email details and has forgotten their password, super users can resend a link so the email can be verified and the password can be reset.
