The Environment Agency has received an application to vary (change) an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 from Lincwaste Limited.

The proposed variation does not involve substantial change.

The proposal involves processing up to 70,000 tonnes of Incinerator Bottom Ash (IBA) waste annually at Whisby Landfill. The operator plans to modify their permit to include a new activity (Schedule 5.4 A(1)(b)(iii)) for treating non-hazardous waste, specifically slags and ashes, with a capacity of over 75 tonnes per day. This will take place in a newly constructed cell (IBA Cell 1) and will involve:

• Removing ferrous and non-ferrous metals for recycling. • Producing IBA Aggregate (IBAA) for off-site export. • Disposing of the remaining processed IBA residues in four engineered non-hazardous cells at Whisby.
