In this letter to the motor industry, the Competition and Markets Authority emphasises the need for every business to ensure they understand what they need to do to comply fully with the law and remain vigilant against the risk of cartel activity in the industry.

Last year Mercedes-Benz and 5 of its commercial vehicle dealers were fined for engaging in unlawful cartel activity. Cartels are not only illegal but seriously harmful to the economy, and the penalties can be severe. See the CMA’s briefing note on the Commercial vehicles case.
