The Environment Agency has received an application to vary an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 involving substantial change to a permit from Pukka Pies Limited.

Regulated facility type

The Pukka Pies facility at Syston has been operating since the 1980s. This permit application will bring the site under the Environment Agency’s regulation as a 6.8 A(1)(d)(iii)(aa) installation for the treatment of animal and vegetable raw materials and has a finished product production capacity greater than 75 tonnes per day where animal material is equal to 10 or more of the weight of the finished production capacity. The facility produces a range of meat/vegetable pies, pasties and sausage rolls. The facility operates 24/7. Cleaning chemicals, refrigerants, diesel, oil and raw foodstuffs are stored on site. The point source emissions associated with the activity constitute emissions to air from two 3.34MWth boiler stacks and three emissions to sewer discharging process waters and site run off.
