Details of the application

The Environment Agency has received an application to vary an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 involving substantial change to a permit from Encyclis Limited.

Regulated facility type

This permit controls the operation of a waste incineration plant. The relevant listed activity is 5.1 A(1)(b). The permit implements the requirements of the EU Directives on Industrial Emissions and Waste. This facility take primarily municipal, commercial & industrial waste including RDF. This will be incinerated using moving grate technology, to dispose of the waste and to generate electrical energy with some to be exported to the National Grid. The variation proposes to increase the annual throughput of waste from 350,000 tonnes per annum to 455,000 tonnes per annum. This would be achieved by running the incinerator at 102% maximum continuous rating (MCR) (previously 100% MCR).
