L20 1BE, European Metal Recycling Limited: environmental permit application advertisement - EPR/JB3501MH/A001
Published 4 December 2020
Applies to England
The Environment Agency has received a new bespoke application for an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 from European Metal Recycling Limited.
Application number
EPR/JB3501MH/A001
Regulated facility type
The proposal for the operation is a metal recycling facility (A20). The main activities will be the storage of furnace ready scrap metal prior to shipping. Depending on the grade of the scrap metal, some scrap metal will not require any physical treatment on site and will solely be subject to manual and mechanical sorting and segregation. However, there may be occasions where some scrap metal will be accepted as Over Sized Burning (OSB) or Oversize Plate and Girder (OA). These types of scrap metal are large in size and therefore need to be cut and reduced in size to facilitate shipping. This will be achieved by a burner (hot cutting) or shearing. In addition to hot cutting and shearing, the applicant expects fragments of residual waste (dust/metal fragments etc.) to be produced from stockpiling and loading the material onto ships. These fragments are referred to as ‘cargo-bottoms’ and will be subject to screening in order to retrieve any residual metal. Any residual non-metal waste will be classified and disposed of accordingly. The proposed annual throughput for the facility is 1,000,000 tonnes and maximum storage capacity is 142,000 tonnes.
Regulated facility address

Seaforth
