Where

Hampton Court Bridge to a point 250 metres downstream of Steven’s Eyot.

Details

Boats cannot navigate anywhere on the River Thames downstream of Molesey Lock between Hampton Court Bridge and a point 250 metres downstream of Steven’s Eyot, Kingston. The only exception to this is the relatively short length of the left hand channel alongside Thames Ditton Island. The rest of the reach described above is closed.

Competitors will assemble downstream of Hampton Court Bridge about thirty minutes before the start and then be despatched at intervals to race downstream along a course which will pass on the east, right hand channel around Thames Ditton Island, then on the east, left hand channel around Raven’s Ait and finish on the west, right hand channel around Steven’s Eyot.

Casual mooring to the towpath or anchoring anywhere between Hampton Court Bridge and Kingston Bridge and on the west, right hand channel around Steven’s Eyot is not allowed.

Mooring at all authorised public, commercial or domestic moorings is allowed provided that all directions given by our Waterway Officers are followed.

All boats must be navigated in accordance with any instructions given from Environment Agency control points or patrol launches.

Bathing or swimming is not allowed in the river between Hampton Court Bridge and a point 250 metres downstream of Steven’s Eyot, Kingston during these times.

All rights and lefts are determined as if one were looking upstream.

Byelaws

Nothing contained in these directions shall supersede those parts of the Thames Navigation Licensing and General Byelaws 1993 as may be relevant.

And Notice is hereby given, that it is provided by Byelaw 52 of the Thames Navigation Licensing and General Byelaws, 1993 that:

The master of any vessel shall except in an emergency not pass any boat-race regatta public procession or gathering for the launch of a vessel or any other event or function which may cause a crowd to assemble on or by the river nor station his vessel thereon in such a manner as would risk obstructing impeding or interfering with such boat-race regatta procession launching event or function or endangering the safety of persons assembling on the river or preventing or interfering with the maintenance of order thereon. The maximum penalty for breach of the Byelaws is £1,000.
