Relevant to anyone who takes part in sea-based activities, this paper was put together by a panel of members from:

• the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA)
• the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI)
• the Royal Yachting Association (RYA)
• industry and academia

It looks at a number of fatal incidents, and judges how many lives could have been saved by wearing lifejackets or buoyancy aids.
