Joint Welsh Government and Defra River Wye catchment project to manage and reduce nutrient pollution privacy notice

What personal data we collect and how it is used

We collect your:

  • name
  • occupation
  • contact details
  • organisation

This data is collected and kept by Defra’s Water Quality Research Team in Analysis & Evidence for Floods, Water & Contamination to disseminate findings and news regarding the project findings and proceedings and may be used for and to query expert contributions for specific evidence and advice needs.

How your personal data has been obtained, if from a third party

Your name and contact email have been obtained from your public University or work profile or through the Wye Catchment Partnership partners and/or Wye Nutrient Management Board.

Lawful basis for processing your personal data

The lawful basis for processing your personal data is consent.

The processing of your personal data is based on consent. You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing: wyejointresearch@defra.gov.uk.

Who we share your personal data with

We will share the personal data collected under this privacy notice with the Welsh Government, as they are working on this project jointly and may also wish to communicate with you.

We respect your personal privacy when responding to access to information requests. We only share information when necessary to meet the statutory requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 and the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

How long we hold personal data

We will keep your personal data on the mailing list for as long as you want to be on it.

What happens if you do not provide the personal data

If you do not provide the personal data, the project team will not be able to take your experience and opinions into account nor can we inform you of the latest developments in relations to the project.

Use of automated decision-making or profiling

The personal data you provide is not used for:

  • automated decision making (making a decision by automated means without any human involvement)
  • profiling (automated processing of personal data to evaluate certain things about an individual)

Transfer of your personal data outside of the UK

We will only transfer your personal data to another country that is deemed adequate for data protection purposes.

  • the right to rectification
  • the right to erasure
  • the right to restrict processing
  • the right to data portability
  • rights in relation to automated decision making and profiling
