The Environment Agency has received a new bespoke application for an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 from Genevieve Farms.

The application is for a Bespoke Environmental Permit for an Inert Landfill at Ingham Pit, Thetford Road, Ingham, Bury Saint Edmunds, Suffolk, IP31 1NR, to complete the high-level restoration of the former sand quarry

Planning  permission  (SCC/0046/20SE,  dated  9th  October  2020)  has  been granted  for  the importation of 120,000 m3 (or approximately 180,000 tonnes) of inert waste material to the site to improve the surface water drainage and restore the land to productive agricultural use.  In  addition,  the  approved  Restoration  Plan  incorporates  biodiversity  enhancement including  strengthening  the  existing  tree  belt  alongside  the  A134  and  establishing  new habitats on the western and northern boundaries. The existing trees, hedges, and pond will be retained.

The site will be operated by Genevieve Farms for the permanent deposit of inert waste. All wastes used in the restoration will be of suitable quality for bulk fill materials and only the upper horizon (0.5 m) as a growing medium for agricultural use.
