Works (whether temporary or permanent) in, over, under or within 8m of the fluvial Middleton Watercourse (main river).
Description of activity
This variation is required to allow the construction of a temporary culvert crossing within the Middleton watercourse, consisting of twin 750mm pipes of approximately 14 metres in length at TM 41558 67271.
The temporary crossing is to facilitate the continued connectivity of the haul road associated with the construction of the Sizewell Link Road (SLR).
The culvert arrangement has been designed in accordance with the 1 in 20 year (5% Annual Exceedance Probability) flood return period (2.30m3/s) as noted on the drawing SZC-AD0300-GTY-SLR-TTW-RO-XX-XX-DRW-HCW-017003.
Overpumping arrangements will be installed to deal with any flows that exceed the capacity of the culverts.
Works are expected to commence in July 2026 and the culvert will remain in place for 12 – 18 months.
