Description of activity
This variation is required to allow the construction of rock armour bund on the seaward side of the Temporary Sea Defence (TSD).
The rock armour bund will extend for a length of approximately 340m from the southern end between the grid reference points detailed above.
The proposed rock armour will comprise predominantly of 3–6 tonne pieces of rock.
The crest level of the rock armour bund is set at 7.0 metres Above Ordnance Datum (mAOD) with a crest width of 2.65 metres.
The base of the rock armour bund will be excavated to a depth of 2.0 mAOD with a base width of 10.65 metres.
The rock armour will be sloped at a 1:2 gradient from the crest to base on the seaward side.
At the very southern end of the TSD the rock armour will tie in the Sizewell B Primary Bank (EA Asset ID No. 5831) via a shingle bund.
Works are expected to commence in August 2026 and take approximately 12-14 weeks to install, subject to weather. All construction activities will be undertaken using land-based machinery only.
