Description of activity

This variation is required to provide a construction constraint resolution between the Temporary Sea Defence (TSD) and the Marine Bulk Import Facility (MBIF). The TSD has been installed from a piling platform constructed at a level of 4.2 mAOD. Once the MBIF cantitravel system is deployed from its launch platform, it will impose width and height constraints on the movement of plant along the piling platform on the seaward side of the TSD. To maintain operational access the piling will be lowered to a flat level of 2.0mAOD beneath the MBIF with ramps sloping down from the piling platform level of 4.2mAOD to either side. The base of the underpass and ramps to either side will each be 33m (99m in total). The base of the underpass will be 9.075m wide. requires the construction of an 100m long underpass structure, comprising a localised lowering and widening of the TSD piling platform beneath the MBIF. These works take place within 16 metres of a sea defence (Asset ID No. 178292) hence the need for a permit variation.
